Missing dlls on file check

Hi.can any one help plz?...In Jan I bought an Advent Cel M420 laptop from pc world. I've been really happy with it but had 1-2 gliches just lately so thought i'd do a file check. Everything was fine till i got the message saying 'files that are needed for windows to run properly must be copied to the dll cache' and insert your windows xp professional cd2 disk. Confusion.. i'm suppose to have windows xp media center editon 2002. Not having got any discs I'd made the restore disc that you're spose to when you first have the pc so put that in and it said it was wrong disc. What do i do now? Any help plz?...thanx

I'd suggest taking backups of your documents and running the full factory restore that usually comes on these laptops. Im not entirely surprised that the disk doesn't work to repair the DLLs because their restore disk isn't always a standard format windows XP disk. It's usually an image of some description.

Easiest way tho - go back to factory.

See I don't have an installation CD for Windows XP - what if I need one?

Well it depends what the disk contains. Different manufacturers will have different methods of factory restore. Usually it's one of two ways. Either (1) there is a hidden partition with an image or (2) a CD is created which has an OEM setup of WIndows.

What to do, is try booting from the CD and see how far it goes. If it boots from the CD, then the chances are it'll go the distance. Just because you boot from the CD to test it, doesn't mean you have to go through with it immediately. You'll be asked (probably many times) whether you're sure you want to wipe it all.
