Hi, I am looking for advice and help. I switched from Scottish Power to another company leaving a closing balance of over 500 pounds (SP owes me this money, AS THEY HAVE BEEN OVERCHARGING ME FOR MONTHS). As a foreigner I have trouble to speak to customer service by the phone and they DO NOT RESPOND TO MY EMAILS. A friend phone on my behalf and they always say they are refunding me with the money with a cheque by post, and this cheque never arrives. As I have read there are a lot of people in my situation, and I think as customers should not be treated this way, I am looking to take further action against them. Seek professional advice, take them to court, and the media.

I am also looking on any advice anyone could give me about this subject, in how to start this. Write to me at * I will put everybody in contact as soon as I start receiving emails. There is no rush, it is not about getting the money back tomorrow, we have 6 years to claim. Other kind of complaints are also welcome, as I believe this is not the only abuse this company does against their customers.

My idea is to put a lot of affected people in contact so that we can create a group, look for a solicitor, and start to do something about it.

Thank you.

Welcome! :) Please edit out your e-mail address, that is against the rules and you risk your thread being deleted.

Write a letter to the Complaints Team, follow the formal complaints procedure. If you reach deadlock or no action after eight weeks you can go to the ombudsman, no need to go to court or the media.

At the risk of stating the blindingly obvious, do they have the correct address for you? Ask them to send a bank transfer direct to your account?
Since you write in impeccable English, I find it hard to believe that your spoken English is so poor that you cannot make yourself understood.

    Hello,

I do not care if the message is deleted, in that case I can put it at any forum. Anybody googling Scottish Power cheque unpaid or something similar will be taken to my post anyway. As I say I have no rush. I see my email address from first message has been deleted, so please send me private messages, thank you.

I know electric companies are a monopolium all over the place, but I happen to know this company in particular, the SPANISH IBERDROLA very well. Back in 2001, They OVERCHARGED MY FATHERS COMPANY THE STAGGERING EQUIVALENT TO 18.000 EUROS. Had to take them to court to get the money back. THIS COMPANY IS JUST NOT SERIOUS OR TRUSTWORTHY, had I known it had bought Scottish Power I would have never contracted them. I am very very angry with this company as you can understand. Even if I have to take them into court costing me more I will, but it would be nice to do a complaint along with many other customers because we can make much more 'noise' that way, and really get the government to know about this problem CONSUMERS ARE SUFFERING EVERY DAY.

Mac Man, of course they have my new home address, the day after leaving my last address I phoned them to give them the new one, asking for the cancellation of the service and direct debit and giving them the actual readings and asking them for the refund of the amount that was on credit. They sent me a letter, which I recieved the following day stating that the cheque would arrive within the following 7 days. That was only the first call!! I dont have problems in making myself understood over the phone, I have problems with the scottish accent, all people at customer service speaks. It's not only the accent, but also the line. It's impossible to hear what they say. I don't think it is serious or acceptable to have people from Glasgow answering the phone, not even if you are Scottish power.

All is good words when you try to speak to them, but it is a fact that they OVERCHARGE YOU EVEN IF YOU ARE IN CREDIT, and I am speaking about huge overcharges, as I was only in Scotland for 6 months. I have tried speaking to them and they say the cheque was sent and MAGICALLY lost on the post. Because I already know my money is lost because of all the other problems customer have had with this company, this time Im going to go until the end.

    Thanks
