Wireless Buffalo - getting there but need help!!

So, I am trying to install my new (well I've had it for 2 months and still haven't got the damn thing to work) Buffalo Wireless Router. I finally had it up and running earlier, but still plugged in by ethernet cable, and when I tried to turn the wireless connection on (my modem does not have an AOSS button) it said I needed to close down all browser screens then open again after waiting 80 seconds (?!). When I did I had no internet connection. After rebooting, unplugging everything and plugging back in, I finally managed to get my internet connection back - still plugged in to the ethernet port - but now can't even get into the administration screen for the router.

Currently the router is on, the main green power light is on as is the green bridging light, and the wireless 'g' is flashing green.

Does this make sense to anyone? Can anyone talk me through fixing this nightmare?? Happy to provide more info if required. Not massively computer savvy so might need to talk to me like I'm 5.

Thanks!!!!! Fingers crossed.

    It's 82.35.240.241

Hopefully this tells you something as means nothing to me!

It tells me you are not connected to the router properly, that is an external IP address, not a 10.x.x.x address or 192.x.x.x address which your router should be giving you.

    Is it wired up

PC -- router -- cable modem?

So you are using Virgin Media as well according to your IP :p

Well, I've got a Buffalo router as well, but I changed the firmware to DD-WRT, so I'm not sure if what I'm going to say is applicable.
The first thing you'd need to do for your internet to work would be to clone your MAC address. I know where the option is in DD-WRT, but not in the original firmware :( So somewhere, "Clone MAC", and clone the MAC of your PC which is normally connected to the internet.

It's weird because from what BlueYonder told me some time ago, the connection is not locked to a MAC. Yet, if I don't do that on my router, I can't connect.

*EDIT* BTW, that needs to be done in the web GUI of the router. In DD-WRT, you can access it by typing the address 192.168.1.1 in your web browser. Again, dunno what the default IP is for the original firmware :( If that doesn't work, try 192.168.0.1 maybe.

Ok, that's slightly scary that you knew that.

That sounds like it's probably very helpful, but I have no idea how to do that! Perhaps if you tell me how you did yours mine might be similar?

So currently you have a PC wired

PC --- ethernet cable -- Router -- ethernet cable -- cable modem

wireless turned off, or not functioning

    and

ipconfig says your IP address is 82.x.x.x

and the internet is working on this PC, but you are unable to get to the config screen 10.0.0.2?

If all the above is true, I would be tempted to hit the reset button on the router, and start again..

Routers normally use dhcp and should issue any PC's attached to them with a local ip address, 10.x.x.x or 192..x.x.x., so either you have turned that off in the router config, or something has gone wrong somewhere, because ipconfig is showing an external (i.e. real internet) address.

Sorry, I realised after that I didn't explain how to access the interface, I added some info in my previous post.
