Lets say you have a valid point, so then whats ur thoughts on the following :

    1. Not long ago banks were charging 30-40£ each time u go into overdraft., these charges were clearly written in their TnC and these people signed the dotted line right. So why did the govt. interfere, found out that charges were unreasonable and nowadays u pay only around14-15£ for the same. So why did everyone not suck it up and pay the agreed higher penalty ? - the answer is that it was not reasonable
    2. Bank of ireland is hiking the mortgage rates crazily for existing customers and their TnC says clearly they have the right to do so and people signed the dotted line. So why there is so much hoohaa in the medi about this now? Why an MP is writing to authorities to review bank of irelands decision ? The bank has not broken the law ! - thr answer is that the bank is not reasonable

And so on......what im saying is £30 is not a reasonable charge to be levied upon me now as dunster house clearly has not incurred costs to that level

And to address your point directly, i believe we are now in a world where being reasonable to each other is the norm And taking advantage of the situation to milk cash out is simply on its way out, not cool anymore.

To anyone who continued to say that dunster house had the right to keep all of the nearly £800 of my money and not deliver anything, you only make me laugh, i certainly would be interested to hear about a real world example of such a thing happening to anyone.

So what are you going to do OP?

Well thanks to the forum members i now have reasonable clarity on what my rights are and what my chances are and how much i can attempt to get back from dunsters.
The plan is to give it a rest over the weekend and think on way forward on monday.
Have spent enough time on this already for this week and not much new comments/ideas/suggestions coming up on this thread in the last few posts, so will be a good idea leave it aline for few days and see if anything new that might be factually helpful crops up.
Other than that have a good weekend everyone and will post again on monday.

I'm beginning to wonder if there is any way of having a discussion on this forum without personally attacking each other :-)
i.e. a discussion based on facts, not personal judgements

You made a mistake and they charged you £30-00.

Look on it as a lesson in making sure you in future you carry out research into a product and whether its the right one for you before ordering.

    Good luck ...........;)

PS: For you to post they are "rip off thieves" and "I hope they go bust" does you no favours. All for the sake of £30-00...How much was the log cabin going to cost?

Then, OP since you are unable to accept what you have been told; that NOT ONLY did the company have the right to retain the £30 admin fee they could also, had they so chosen, retain your whole deposit I STRONGLY advise you to read this thread and, in particular, post 16.

And just because you personally have never come across this happening before doesn't mean it never happens; it happens time and time again. On the Consumer Rights board there have been many, many complaints from people who have paid a deposit for a good or a service, changed their mind and been incensed that they cannot get their deposit back.

DFS deposit for sofa paid; DFS would not cancel order

    deposit paid for pram

    Just two examples.

Only if Parliament are going to hurry some new legislation through. Don't hold your breath!

I wish they'd kept your whole deposit - because you are being astoundingly foolish and ignoring anything YOU don't agree with. They haven't broken any law; you are entitled to nothing from them.

You are wrong; you have been very lucky thus far. Carry on with this and your luck will run out.

Good grief OP. You've spent more than £ 15 just in the time you've spent spouting on this thread.

BTW please change the thread title. Its defamatory and could lead to action against MSE as recent activities by MOL and his [STRIKE]cohorts[/STRIKE] staff from a certain loco airline have shown elsewhere.

If their lawyers are watching they have a pretty good clue who you are anyway. You've given too much away so mod it please. Otherwise I'll just ask the Forum Team to do it for you. Theres a good chap.

    Cheers

You really aren't getting this are you?

Never mind the £800, the company is entitled to claim the FULL COST from you, but will of course have to deliver a slightly oversize log cabin to your front door in return. By allowing you to cancel they have lost the profit they could have made on the sale.

    None, nada, zip, zilch.

What can anyone possibly say that would make you happy? The realms of fact have been mined exhaustively on this thread, but unfortunately you don't want to hear the facts, you want us to tell you to take them to the cleaners. Please, please keep us updated... We all need a laugh sometimes! :D
  • You made a good move cancelling your order from this incompetent company. I purchased a log cabin in August 2014 also through the Faversham branch. When the delivery came, the installers noted that I had ordered triple therm wall insulation and asked whether I had decided against roof and floor insulation...this was not included in the order and I had not been advised that I only had wall in the order. I had asked for it to be triple therm throughout. I then had to pay a further £650 over the phone. They admitted their error. That aside, by November gaps of over an inch in places appeared over all the interior walls, planks were separating hugely...I had been informed by the installers that some movement to the exterior walls would happen over time and shown how to tighten the storm braces...but not the interior walls, so I was shocked. This company has poor customer services, you are only able to communicate through email, and, despite sending photographs and lengthy emails explaining that their instructions to unscrew all roof batons and reassemble the planks accordingly, was beyond my capabilities, they insisted it was my responsibility as they considered it basic maintenance...I was only able to have an installer correct the problem this week at a further cost of £250 - the two men agreed that it was beyond basic maintenance but stated I would find it difficult to prove and have a refund of the £250 ....hence my forum entry as I hope no one has the misery I have had to endure through buying a cabin (incidentally almost costing £8,000 in total) through this company....Kompkar...you had a lucky escape as you only lost £30 to the people who don't know the first thing in customer care.
I feel so much better now, sorry about the rant!
