75mins is only enough if your inbound flight is on time. Is there a later flight to BCN if you miss your current flight?

Yes there is a later flight but I couldn't book on to that one with Avios.

Both BA (cash sales) and Avios have (had) my new flight available from Leeds - Barcelona. So although I have chose this tight connection, I haven't actually chose individual flights from Leeds & Heathrow and then hoped there is enough time to connect.

There is one later flight, providing they have seats on it. The minimum connection time is 60 minutes and there are so few passengers on the flights from Leeds, they are usually on time. When checking in on line 24 hours before departure, get seats as close as possible to the front, although often with 20 or so people on board, the lowest I believe was 3 the week before last, I seem to get 15-30, where you sit may not be quite as important. You can of course check in for your connecting flight at the same time so you will your boarding passes, just follow the purple 'flight connections' signs on arrival.

Are flight connections straight forward (I have never made one), I'm assuming my hold luggage is processed automatically but do I go through security again?

There's no problem with me getting off the plane quickly, I'm one of those annoying people whose mission it is to get off the plane and through to customs as quickly as possible. I'd also be checking in online for the first time and hopefully as you suggest printing boarding cards out at home to save queening in T5.

If you have booked this as one booking then BA will have the responsibility of getting you to your destination, so if your flight from Leeds is delayed and there is room on the later Barcelona flight, BA will move you to the later flight free of charge. If there is no room, BA will put you up in a hotel and fly you out the next day.

I am worried if 75 minutes will be enough time to transfer at T5 bear (both flights BA and should arrived depart at T5)?

I thought some domestic flights arrive at Terminal 1 - even with British Airways! I just checked, Leeds/ Bradford flights arrive at Terminal 1!

The minimum connection time is 90 minutes. Guidelines on the official heathrow airport web page on how to proceed between terminals:

    http://www.heathrowairport.com/heathrow-airport-guide/flight-connections/terminal-1-domestic-connecting-to-terminal-5-international

Is your ticket booked on one booking reference or two? I am very surprised BA or Avios have allowed this to be booked as one trip, if it is booked as 2 separate flights and you miss the second flight, BA have no obligation to help you!

They have flights at T1 as well (including flights from LBA at the moment, they're swapping to T5 shortly which is probably way the earlier poster was able to book with a 75 minute connection).

Thanks for the help everyone. I had 10 minutes of panic when I saw the post by silvercar but after Googling Leeds to Heathrow Terminals, I found out what jpsartre has posted (would have been quicker for me to refresh the page).

    http://www.britishairways.com/travel/new-routes/public/en_gb
    London Heathrow to Leeds Bradford
"Our new UK domestic route to Leeds Bradford will move from Terminal 1 to Terminal 5 on 31 March 2013, reducing connection times to the rest of the British Airways network."

I've just checked and the journey is listed as Leeds to Barcelona and I have one reference number for everything.

Sorry to have panicked you, the heathrow airport official website hasn't been updated.

    From another forum:
"You need to pass conformance at 35 minutes (let's say, though the reality can be more complicated). You get that at the start of the Flight Connections area, so that's the real deadline.

Conformance is a time at which your boarding pass for your onward flight MUST be scanned at flight connections. This is 35 minutes before departure. If you are not scanned at that point, you will be offloaded from your next flight."
