New Bike?

If it is just a mile, you could brisk walk it 15-20 mins each way. Getting the bike in and out of the car each day/locking it or storing it for such a short journey will be a pain after a while. Bike in - bike out - bike in - bike out everyday, unless you can leave it in car overnight.
This.
I used to walk around 2 miles to/from work, 1 mile is nothing if you're healthy enough to cycle it!0 -
For only a mere mile, boot stall old racer £10 tops, then who cares if its nicked. pound shop lights £2 ,pound shop bike lock £1 ( no one will want the bike as it wont be shiny enough , a bit of oil for the chain. Not worth pratting about with ebay paypal etc. I never fail to see an old bike on my local boot sale , many are excellent old out of fashion looking racers with campagnola gear. I mile will take you 5 mins0
