Applying for NHS job after they have sacked you

Has anyone ever been sacked by the NHS then reapplied for another position within NHS.

How did you get on?

I am asking because I was sacked by NHS a year ago for gross misconduct which I was innocent of but they never saw it that way. I have now came across a job advertised with NHs which I wanted to apply for but was thinking I would probably have no chance as they would have a file for me that they could just look up.

Would they even consider appointing someone who has already been sacked by another NHS hospital?

I was only nursing assistant so did not have nursing registration to deal with.

I was sacked from nhs over 4 years ago and have had a couple of jobs since then but have been unable to get back into nhs, convinced I am on some sort of blacklist! I was sacked over a disagreement with another member of staff who could not do her job as she was clueless and I asked that she was replaced - as she was there longer than me they decided that I should go! But labeled a troublemaker and told to go, could have taken them to tribunal but couldn't be bothered. So yes, I believe once you have been sacked its impossible to get back in.

I know what you mean. The NHS is full of people sucking up with bosses.

Its all to do with who you are pals with, as to how you get treated. I know what you mean about not going to a tribunal as I was advised it would have been a waste of time. I also found Unison very unhelpful.

Unless its the same trust they won't have a personal file on you, however "dismissed for gross-misconduct" will turn up on any references and you're sort of obliged to mention it if the application form asks for "reasons for leaving"

Wouldn't that depend on how many more recent employers the OP has had who could be used for references?

Mind you, 'reason for leaving' could be tricky: if the OP doesn't say they were dismissed and the employer finds out, then that could well be another incident of gross misconduct they won't accept!

Writing such posts on a public forum is not the way to go to regain employment within the NHS. Are you sure that's what you want? If you have such a negative attitude towards the NHS (rightly or wrongly), it's not going to fo anyone any favour to work with them again.

I'm not sure they would notice, what do you have to lose? I have heard of people that have been sacked by DWP reapplying for jobs six months later and being successful, it's shocking. One of the people in question was apparently sacked for excessive sickness whilst on probation, the first thing they did when they got re-employed was go off on long term sick with full pay, it's like a game to them and the DWP only have themselves to blame. Luckily the new terms and conditions for new staff starts to deal with this issue.

Yes, although it also depends on the application form. ISTR that mine asked for the last X years employment history rather than the last Y employers

Im not sure that you have ever worked for nhs after a comment like that. Either that or you are one of those who sucks up with the bosses, because you think they do want to be your friend.
