Just found a 2002 girobank cheque

I have found a old Girobank cheque for £200, dated 2002 which was made payable to my late father.

He had Alzheimer's, which probably started in about 2002, so this was probably hidden away, it was actually inside a book.

is there anything I can do now, as £200 would be useful.

thanks

  • The only thing you could do is contact the person who issued the cheque explain the situation and see what they say. It all depends on the person who issued the cheque and why it was issued if it was drawn on an isntitution your late father had an account with then it is possible the account is dormant and the funds are still there.

I think it was a previous 'winter fuel allowance' payment, but there is no name of a sender. Dad's NI is on it, which gives me the clue about the fuel payment.
