A friend of mine applied for a tesco credit card online and was given a message 'We may be able to offer a credit card' and was also shown the estimated credit limit and APR.It says they need to do some further checks and will get back with a decision within 5 working days.
Has anyone been in a similar situation and what are the chances of my friend getting the card?
Thanks in advance x

I got that and received it. Did it ask your 'friend' about adding card holders, setting up online banking etc?0

Yep, got the same thing about 2 weeks ago,
then 2 days later received my pin number and then 3 workings days later received my card and documents, went on-line registered for on-line banking and TA-DA
but it all depends i have read on these forums that people have been declined after the same message came up. so really depends on your friends Credit file and Tesco.
Out of interest - what were they offered online and at what APR did they give.
Mine was 3500 at 17.9 APR. after the promotion ends :TTotal Debt in June 2013: Barclaycard 0% until Nov 2014: £1550
Tesco CC: £1200 0% Until March 2014
HSBC CC: £384 25%APR - TARGET to make GREEN ASAP0 -
It possibly just means that they need to further verify identity, address, etc. and check your "friend's" credit file. They could ask for more information before either rejecting or approving the application.
I was fortunate that when I applied for my Tesco C.C. their system was obviously able to verify everything electronically and was approved straight away.0 -
@Theboss I have no idea.
@learningaboutinsurance The APR offered was 18.9% I think.Don't know about the limit though.
@oldagetraveller Yeah it seems like its something to do with her address as she gets this a lot.
Thanks guys x0 -
I got 5.5k limit @ 15.9%
That's the lowest APR I've ever been offered on a credit card so I was really happy with that! I've had a clubcard for 6 years now and buy my groceries and petrol from them so I'm not sure whether the information they have on my shopping habits influenced the credit card application?
I'm quite a big fan of Tesco to be honest, I really like the online banking website and how useful Tesco clubcard vouchers are.
The 0% on purchases for 16 months on this credit card is very tempting too, I've upgraded my kitchen and I think I might get some new windows after Easter on it...0 -
@Jakegreen Your shopping habits has nothing to do with your credit card application.Im sure there are loads of other cards that offer less than 15.9% apr.
Were you accepted straight away when you applied? x0 -
NB - when Tesco Credit Card applications asked if you have a Clubcard? The operative word is 'you'! That is a CC with your name on. It doesn't mean someone else's keyfob that you use.
Providing the number supplied matches the surname and address of the applicant - it will be linked the the applicants new credit card - under the applicant's name.
Resulting in the previous CC holder being unable to discus the CC details because it is now in the Credit Card holder's name.I used to work for Tesco - now retired - speciality Clubcard0 -
@no1catman LOL you ok?0

Yes, as soon as I submitted the application I was accepted and the credit limit was shown on the screen.
When I applied for the Santander 123 and the Barclaycard cashback card I got the confirmation a few days later.0
