Interview with McDonalds - any tips for DS aged 16?

DS completed and submitted an application form for a part time (whilst studying) job at McDonalds.

He has had a phone call tonight asking him in on Saturday morning for an interview, so just wanted a little inside information if anyone works there :

1. Whilst I accept it will probably seem like hard work to him - is it a pleasant working environment?

2. What type of questions will he get asked, as he had no job experience.

3. If he is sucessful, I would prefer that he doesn't start until after his exams are completed - mid June - would this be acceptabe to them?

Thanks in advance.

*Over anxious mum!*

Hi Dora, when i was 16 i got a job at McD's - the interview was a joke to be honest i've never had one that easy, i think its just to check you have half a brain and can generally walk and talk...... they will ask generally what he up to with his education, when can he work, his hobbies and i got asked why they should give the job to me (hardworking punctual etc) and what skills you have got

Is it a good working environment?.....debatable, though people think its a doodle McD's is a fast moving environment especially at weekends when people seem to love nothing more than eat in McD's. McD's there is usually a low morale amongst staff and the managers arent as highly skilled as you'd expect, but as a international employer they do abide by health and safety etc so your son should be safe enough.

There is always plenty of overtime available and hours are very flexible and usually they are always after staff so they'd generally be okay with him starting in a few weeks time.

Hope that helps, though this was a about 5 years ago :)

When I was at college, many of my friends worked there

It must have been a good place to work, because I'm afraid many people dropped out of college to work there full time

Very useful information, especially regarding the interview.

He's not under any illusion that it is going to be his career - I think he just likes the idea of earning some money!

It is a 10 minute cycle ride or 2 mins if we give him a lift, so is very handy for him too.

He is a little shy, so I am hoping that working with other young people will do him good.

I also think he will benefit from being away from my influence (in the nicest possible way of course!).

I'm sure he'll be fine Dora, i'm quite a shy person until you get to know me and tbh working at McD's was quite like being at school, everyone is in there teens or early twenties and you just have to huddle together and try and make the time go quickly and everyone is generally friendly - oh and you get a free meal on your lunch break aswell, i dont know if thats a blessing or not ;)

ha i worked for mcds when i was doing my a levels.

my interview they asked if i wanted to go over to scotland three weeks later for the day to get blocked! i remember it well! drinking wiskey @ 8 am on the stena line haha

its not a bad place to work for, there is a bit of craic working for them, and good fun

however what happened to me is that there was 18 phillipino workers came over. and our hours were cut severly, didnt really affect me as i was part time, but there was full timers on 8 hours per week

anyway, i used this an excuse to leave.

yes.. about the freee meals. when i started it was 5 items each but then went down to 3 (in reality most managers dont care what you eat)

BUT.. i started.. i was nine stone. i left and and a half years later, and i was thirteen and a half. so just tell her to be careful!

finally, i failed my a levels thanks to mcdonalds, so warn her of the dangers of working big hours!
