Isn't it in the ebay terms that you have to accept Paypal if that is what the buyer requests?

My issue is, why buy an item and try and pay PayPal when it's clearly stated that I won't accept it? Where's the point?
It's a fairly low value item (<£50), definitely not something scammable. As it's also a collection only item, it also allows the buyer to inspect prior to payment anyway.
I'm done with eBay now anyway. I often sell on Gumtree, but decided to try eBay for a couple of items that don't really have much of a place on there. (They'd end up in a misc category and end up falling off the first few pages quickly)

It is also clearly stated that a seller must take paypal, and as stated above the paypal is accepted button is going to be much more visible that anything you try and impose on a buyer.

Yes we sellers ignore the bits we don't like, of course we do, but we cannot then accuse our buyers of being daft because they then read the bits they want (as per auction listing) and not the additional bits a seller tries to impose. Colelction only items are a gamble on ebay, we have to accept that and choose whether or not we feel up to the risk. If we don't, then we walk away from ebay- as I have done on many collection only items I will not gamble my account on.
With people who pay via Paypal for local pick up items why not type your own proof of them receiving it up on a computer and get them to sign it.

As tattycath says how does that help when ebay clearly state proof of dleivery is required to the address that they tell you to send it to. Also, just from a practical point of view, how would a bit of paper signed by a randon stranger help in any way, your next door neighbour could have signed it for all paypal know.

I don't know whether or not I'm missing the point in this thread but . .

I have *never* encountered any difficulties in stipulating cash on collection when selling on eBay an item that's suitable for local pick-up only. No problem with the buyer. And absolutely no problem with eBay itself. Because as eBay states here:

    http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/accepted-payments-policy.html#some

Sellers who offer payment upon pickup may include the following statement in their listings: "Contact me for payment methods to pay on pickup."

I use that exact eBay text in any pick-up only listing I run. I feature it in large size print at the start of the listing text. I also add further clarification so that it actually appears, word-for-word, thus:
Please note: this listing is for
    Local Collection ONLY.
As per eBay's standard rules in regard to
Local Collection Only listings, please contact me for payment methods to pay on pickup.

A 10% DEPOSIT payable via PayPal is required.

I've never yet had a buyer who has failed to understand that. But perhaps I've been lucky.

I really don't know where this stuff has come from about how, if a buyer wants to use PayPal to pay for an item, then a seller cannot do anything about it and must accept that. eBay has always allowed the seller of a pick-up only item the freedom to stipulate terms of payment on collection.

And, because eBay does permit this, then the issue of having to pay to re-list an item where the original transaction had to be cancelled because of buyer failure to abide by eBay-approved listing T&Cs doesn't seem a problem, either (but then, I've never had to cancel / refund a local collection only transaction.)

I sold DD's old leap pad a few years ago as Cash on Collection because she'd got so many extra books, case etc it was a bulk to post. Winning bidder was in Spain.....

Was more than a bit surprised when bidders Mum turned up to collect it, paying the cash, on the way to the airport to her daughter. She was thrilled with it but it certainly surprised me!

One of the reasons I no longer use ebay. It's obvious they'd rather push Paypal than have any concern for their users' security. If a scammer pays their fees then ebay welcome them with open arms. Anything I need to get rid of I now give away locally or get a charity to collect. I've just given away about a grand's worth of furniture to a charity rather than give a penny of my money to that dirty organisation.

I like the idea of a deposit, but if they turn up and don't like the goods can they have it returned via paypal?
