Same thing happened to me last year while DH was abroad. My dining room window was covered in flies. I tried to swat them but there were too many, so I bought some flyspray, which sorted them out!
Never found out what caused them, and we don't have cats.

Oh dont feel sorry for the little beggars!
Now I dont kill spiders, they get captured and dropped off outside. But flies, those little beasties are ugly disease spreading dirtbags and dont deserve any mercy. Any that have the nerve to fly into my house are subjected to a high speed rolled up newspaper!SIMPLE SIMON - Met a pie man going to the fair. Said Simple Simon to the pie man, "What have you got there?" Said the pie man unto Simon, "Pies, you simpleton!"0 -
A few months ago I was watching the tv one evening and heard a drip, drip coming from the top of the frame of the patio windows (the weather was terrible, horizontal rain!). As the house is still fairly new, the builders sent a window man around around and he wanted to check on the upstairs windows and seals. We went up to number 1 son's bedroom and as he opened the window I was HORRIFIED to see a swarm of flies come into the room. The window guy said that flies often hibernate in window frames and he reccomended opening the windows, to disturb them, at least once a week.
Skipkoo (still embarrased about this I gotta admit )0 -
I've had them seemingly just emerge from the windowframes before, especially when it gets suddenly a lot warmer (like it did just recently...). I just fly spray them til they're all gone, and they don't tend to return.
Last lot we had weren't anything to do with dead or dying things, just seemed to decide they wanted to live in the window frame!0 -
ahhh thats interesting - as they do seem to appear near the windows. although i just properly work out where the hell they are coming from. they are MASSIVE bluebottle type things
OH still isnt home, but when he gets in i am going to get him to check everywhere and if we still cant find out the cause i dont know what i will do!!0 -

Ever come face to face with a !!!!-chafer? Now they ARE scary! Like huge flying cockroaches. Ewwww!
Had a couple banging against the patio doors last night (but I wouldn't let them in  )
We seem to have a few flies about too, guess summer's on it's way. Part of life hereabouts, only a couple of hundred yards from pigs in one direction and turkeys in t'other. Not dead yet, just make sure food is always well covered!0 -
i did wonder if it was weather related, but i have never seen them in my house before, let alone 10 each day ewww. they make me feel itchy!0
