I came home last nite to about 3 flies in my living room. very odd as my cat normally eats them! so never ever see them in my house.
shooed them out the door as i hate them, but cant kill them either.
tonight i have come home to about 10 flies.
why on earth would they be in my house and how can i get rid of them
the only reason is that there could be a mickey under my sofa, but am home alone and cant life very heavy sofa and look under at same time. also i would be sick everywhere if i saw anything like that.
my OH is home 2moro lunchtime so i could leave for him to deal with but i wondered if anyone had any short term solutions or ideas.
help i feel physically sick at the thought of flies in my house.

Short term solution would be flyspray ... or apparently if you spray them with vodka it kills them too.
Long term, check under the sofa and furniture for a 'present' ... my cats do this all the time and sometimes we only find things when they start to smell ... Also, if there's nothing under the sofa, do you have an open fireplace? We once had a fly problem and we couldn't work out what was causing it - turned out a bird had fallen in down the chimney and died. Blergh.0 -
oh my god i have a chimney
i cant smell anything rank and cant def remember the dead mouse under sofa smell! and cant smell that!!
i cant look under the sofa and cant pull it out cos if loads of flies flew out i would pass out. flyspray it is for 2nite then and then long term soultion 2moro
have all windows open and am encouraging them to leave of their own accord before they get the fly spray treatment. i feel so sick.0 -
Have you got any any citronella candles? Burn them in the room with the windows open, the flies will fly out of the window cos they hate it.Bulletproof0

Don't panic. It's only a few hours till your OH can help. If you can't face checking round or killing the flies, get the cat out of the room and shut the door till he gets back.
You've not put a bowl of cat meat down and forgotten it have you? Or forgotten to empty a bin?May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
nah bins are empty and cats food isnt down long enough to get a fly near it! LOL it iss scoffed in seconds!
god i hate flies and wont sleep 2nite0 -
Can you use a hoover attachment on them?:eek:May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0

Sounds like a little present could be lurking somewhere:rolleyes: what about the litter tray? maybe ur cat has done it elsewhere? should be able to smell that out though hmm, what kind of flies are they?
Are u able to check the chimney?

Yes, it sounds like the cats have left a present. My kitten is just at that learning stage and I used to hate having to remove anything remotely dead or dying. Now I've overcome that part of my phobia, but the heavy sofa thing is a problem. Can you ask a neighbour to come and lift it while you look or vice versa? Otherwise, lots of flyspray.spendy/she/her ***DEBT-FREE DATE: 11 NOVEMBER 2022!*** Highest debt: £35k (2006) MY WINS: £3,541 CASH; £149 Specsavers voucher; free eye test; goody bag from Scottish Book Trust; tickets to Grand Designs Live; 2-year access to Feel Amazing App (worth £100); Home Improvement & Renovation Show tickets; £50 to spend on chocolate; Harlem Globetrotters tickets; Jesus Christ Superstar tickets + 2 t-shirts; Guardians of the Galaxy goody bag; Birmingham City v Barnsley FC tickets; Marillion tickets; Dancing on Ice tickets; Barnsley FC v Millwall tickets0

ive just gone and brought flyspray and feel evil killing them - and am sucking them up once they are nearly dead (dont fancy them buzzin in the dyson - eww)
cant ask neighbour really, dont really know them well enough. am gonna have to fly spray 2nite and get OH to check the entire house 2moro nite. i cant see where they are coming from and def cant smell anything bad (although i have a bit of a cold - i would be able to smell cat poo)
what worries me most is that there could be maggots somewhere - im def not going to get a wink of sleep 2nite i hate maggots0 -
Could be a good way to get to know a neighbour a bit better? People generally love to help, and often either them asking me or me asking them has broken the ice.
I'd have to hoover up all the dead bodies too!spendy/she/her ***DEBT-FREE DATE: 11 NOVEMBER 2022!*** Highest debt: £35k (2006) MY WINS: £3,541 CASH; £149 Specsavers voucher; free eye test; goody bag from Scottish Book Trust; tickets to Grand Designs Live; 2-year access to Feel Amazing App (worth £100); Home Improvement & Renovation Show tickets; £50 to spend on chocolate; Harlem Globetrotters tickets; Jesus Christ Superstar tickets + 2 t-shirts; Guardians of the Galaxy goody bag; Birmingham City v Barnsley FC tickets; Marillion tickets; Dancing on Ice tickets; Barnsley FC v Millwall tickets0
