Firstly please forgive me if this should be in a different catagory but i wasnt sure where to post it.
Secondly please dont judge me by asking this question
Me and my husband have been trying for a baby since we got married nearly 2 years ago but nothing has come of it as yet. I have been terrible lately for searching baby clothes and cots etcs and saving them to my ipad and computer.
But what i really want to know is, is it bad luck to start buying now (which would be better for us in the long run) even though i have not fallen pregnant yet? I have heard its bad luck to buy and keep in your home but not anyone elses how true is this?

I suppose it's a personal choice. Personally I don't believe it's 'bad luck' but I think if it was me then having the items there in the house and visible etc would kind of make me feel worse if it then 'didn't happen' each month iyswim?0

If I am honest I was in the same position as you and I did buy lots of baby stuff before I fell pregnant with my first child. (Not the big stuff, just clothes, nik naks etc). OH thought I was a bit daft but didn't stop me! It is certainly not going to have any impact on whether you have a healthy pregnancy or not but I would still consider the point made by podperson above. Good luck.0

I am in the same postion as you. Been TTC for over two years, had all the checks and diagnosed as "unexplained infertility". So I know exactly what you are going through.
Any way I personally have not and will not buy stuff before I am pregnant. Even if I did get preggers I would wait a good few months.
Not because I think its bad luck or anything but I couldnt bear seeing all the bits around the house!
Also it will be so much more exciting to buy stuff for an actually baby, rather then for the baby in your imagination....if you see what I mean.
Baby clothes will always be in shops so its not like they are going to run out.0 -
Turned out i was pregnant when i got married and didn't know it bought a few bits then had a mc. I could not stand having the stuff around and got my husband to put it all in the loft. Does make you think about bad luck rational or irational it hurt.
Its easy to get carried away buying stuff and now we have a baby i did buy to much crap we barely use. There will always be sales and bargains so try not to get hung up on great deals there will always be more.
Did you see the tip about femme cups last weekon here? Someone had used one as an aid to keeping sperm in position longer!! Thought it sounded a good practical idea.
All the best and i hope you have good news soon.0 -
Wow!! Thank you to everyone for your responses i really do appreciate it! Glad to know i am not the only one in this situation. Xxx

I wouldn't; but only because I would be worried I would see something else later that I liked more.0

I also wouldn't be able to bear having things around and not a baby to put in them.
What about compromising and getting a baby terramundi?
You can put a little away each week/month so you know you are saving for when you have a baby, and you can have so much fun smashing it when you are pregnant and ready to buy your baby things :-)

Personally, I didn't buy anything (1 basic set of clothes and 1 set for the cot only) until the baby was born. It was partially for superstition but mainly because I know myself. It would kill me to see all those things if something went wrong and with childbirth even with young women things might go wrong...
Anyway. Don't take it into your had. It was a research about getting pregnant and being in stress situations. Apparently those who are stressing for any or no reason could not get pregnant more (something like 46% if I remember) then those who are happy.0 -
I didn't buy baby stuff before I fell pregnant but I did enter competitions and I won a few things and kept them
I liked knowing that I had the chance of getting baby related bits and pieces whilst saving money to buy bits I hadn't won when I did get pregnant
Good luck xxx
