I need gas & electricity help!!!

Options
At the moment I'm on a prepayment meter with EON for both my gas and electricity and I'm paying a fortune.

A friend was telling me that she has a "dry meter" with Scottish Power. Are these better? How do I go about getting it?

If she had a wet meter there would be lots of sparks. :rotfl:

Seroiusly I hve never heard of a dry meter. Paying by PPM is the same as a suppliers Pay on Bill tariff these days. The cheapest tariff are DD online based ones. To get the meters changes you will (a) have to pass a credit check and (b) normally pay about £50 per meter.

You need to remember at this time of year you use about 5 times the amount of gas as in the summer so you will be paying lots but that would be the same if you get a bill.

If you are a new tenant are you using your own device not ones left behind which may have debt on?

    Morning Sherelle,

I assume you mean you would like to change your meters for credit meters and pay by Direct Debit?

You can contact us in regards to changing the meters, this is now free but we will insist on an external credit check and paying future bills by monthly Direct Debit.

However, if the meters were installed to collect a debt we may not agree to remove them. Each account is looked at individually.

The unit prices for credit meters are pretty much the same as pre-payment meters, so this won't make a huge difference although you would be able to pick from more tariff's which may give you a better discount.

Usage is higher at this time of year as spiro says, if you were to have credit meters you would pay the same amount but this would be spread out over the year.

A PPM costs the same as the supplier's Standard tariff.

Seriously I have never heard of a dry meter.

You can't be all that old then.

I can remember them being called dry meters in the fifties, I can also remember my Mum getting all excited when we finally got rid of our "wet" meters so we didn't have to keep half crowns to feed them.

And reading them every week so she knew how much to put in a tin from the housekeeping that my dad gave her every Friday, when he came home from his work with his wages, paid in cash, to pay the bill when it came every quarter.
Getting forgetful, if you think I've asked this before I probably have. :rotfl:

You'll need to contact your supplier.

This link should prove helpful in understanding how different suppliers treat such requests:
