Ive decided i want to work in Retail management and have recently had interviews with Aldi and B&Q, However does anybody know if any of these larger companies will except somebody without a degree onto their graduate schemes .... i am 32 and have had many year expereince in retail/hospitality, but i am aware i am competing against people with degrees....

whats the best route folks.....

You would need to check directly with each company, but there are so many graduates applying for each scheme, I would guess that even if they accepted an application, you would not get past the initial sift.
    Gone ... or have I?

I doubt it, however there's nothing to stop you applying for other positions. You've probably got a better chance of a decent wage and progression by not going on a graduate programme anyway.

I'd suggest trying to find out the name of someone relatively high up (i.e. someone paid to make decisions not just do admin and follow orders) in the recruitment department of various retail companies. A pleasant call to switchboard or reception will get you that information. Then ring/email this person and ask for their advice. Different companies will have different views on the issue.

Retail and hospitality have skills that transfer easily because both are about sales and customer service. Both make a lot of money from upselling (this room/product is only X more expensive but it's much better etc). Both involve working with all sorts of people from all walks of life. They belong to the same family so to speak.

Remember you've had interviews so you're obviously not an automatic no. That's a good sign. Even if these are just small companies a few years with them would get you experience that will stand you better than a bit of paper saying you can do the theory. Once you've got that one job that looks good on your CV then you're on a roll! :)
