Hi

I may sound stupid but we have received an npower invoice today for £450 leaving our npower account £160 in debit but our bill date is not until 20/05/2013 and we pay them £120 per month

Can someone please shed some light on this

Invoice period from 02/11/2012 to 14/02/2013

Thank you

Have you considered ringing NPower to ask? Did they read your meter recently?

We last submitted reading on 8th

Is it normal to invoice 2 month before bill and debit £440

Won't your May bill (roughly) cover the period 20 February to 20 May? If so they aren't invoicing early since the invoice is for 2 November to 14 February, my guess was previous bills have been underestimates, now you've submitted a reading you are catching up - do you not read the meter very often?

The amount is normal if you've underpaid by that much, yes.

If you are paying £120pm by DD, then this is not a bill, it's a statement. You're not being asked to pay anything earlier. It's just stating your current balance and you will continue to be debited £120pm.

As macman says this is a statement not an invoice. Accurate up-to-date statements are good. Most complaints on this board are related to statements that dont materialize. You are one of the "lucky" ones. Just check the meter readings to see that they appear to be correct and be sure to send meter readings in regularly.
  • I had this query as well but quiet frankly couldnt be bothered to sort it out. When you sign up they say you will get a bill every 6 months. So you are in fact correct.

People who say this is a statement need to look more closely. Each time you submit a read they will bill you. Then (and heres the catch) if your on a two rate tarriff you will begin to be charged the higher rate tarriff for the first so many units again. Which i don't think is right as you may have been charged the higher rate from November. Now you have had a new bill you'll be charged it again. Its happened a few times with me.

Really you should stay on the lower rate until May when you should be billed again.

Basically you get punished for what energy companies request you do - Provide up to date current reads!

I would suggest everybody checks this out...

I had something similar happen and I was given the information by npower, that if you submit a reading on-line (but not via the dedicated phone number) the computer system is set-up in a way to create a new invoice automatically. Which tallies perfectly with the dates you have given.

As others have said, the invoice is likely to be "for information only".
