Screen replacement for iPad 2

Has anyone used a company to replace the screen on an iPad they would recommend?
It is 15 months old so out of warranty hence i am not worried about invalidating it.
Apple charge £200 for an oow swap at the apple store, seems expensive for an iPad 2 16gb wifi. I am under the impression they are refurbished but I may be wrong.
The magnetic apple cover detached from the iPad when oh was putting it down last night and the iPad slipped and the screen cracked on the glass bedside table, very frustrating!
Thanks for any help!

This post was on the Ipad Mini thread just now, but as the poster put, same with me, no idea, not used them before.
Frankly I'd see if you can get it done on your household contents insurance if you have accidental damage first.
Then look to see if there is anywhere near you where you can go in physically and make sure, after all it's not a cheap piece of kit, and you kind of want to know that it's not some bloke in the pub etc.0 -
I'd seen this thread title but somehow posted my response on the Mini thread. :rotfl:0

It's a lot cheaper (via Apple Genius Bar) if this issue with your iPad is because your battery isn't holding the charge as long as it should / was, so if you have an issue with your iPad and the battery isn't holding its charge, then make sure that is the main reason you need it fix, rather than any other that you may of lived with otherwise....
It will workout about half the price, however if the screen is 100% broken and therefore the iPad won't work due to this, it maybe harder to state the main issue is battery related..... :-/0 -
Has anyone actually used the place bod1467 has suggested and would recommend it?
I have a quote for £60 from a local guy who will give a 3 month warranty but he is a one man band and I am nervous to use him and would like to hear about other people's experience of having screens replaced.
I don't think I could get away with saying it was a battery fault, it still works but the whole screen is shattered
I strongly reccomend not using the magnetic covers, they seem to get less strong over time.
Trying to decide if I should make a Genius Bar appointment but the nearest is 45 mins drive away.
Thanks for the reccomendations so far!0 -
Unfortunately as you've found out the smart covers are not meant to be used to hold, or balance on. The ipad mini ones are even worse on magnets and whilst a cheap Chinese version works on my ipad 2, mini just doesn't even keep it on whilst doing anything but being flat and laid down.
Reveiws suggest that the official one aint much cop either.0 -
Youtube have a good selection of ipad2 DIY replacement screen videos.;)0
