Baby formulas in Tescos REDUCED!!!!

I don't think anyone is proposing to report Tesco, for just the reasons you have stated.Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0

Thanks for the good message posted munki.
I am b/feeding my newborn but my problem is that he point blank refuses a bottle. So in can be frustrating both ways!
I went to my local tesco when the original message about reduced milks was posted. Stocked up well for the next year, fingers crossed.
As this is a website for sharing bargains...I have no problem about the small print of selling, illegal or not. Formula is expensive so i hope many people grabbed the milk while they could before inspectors start poking their noses in. I am sure Tesco now know what they did was technically wrong, but at least some people will have a little extra in their purses.

Glad you stocked up - but I don't think Tesco did anything technically wrong at all. They are allowed to charge what they like for their products, and that is just what they did, but by not advertising the lower prices, they made sure they were not promoting the baby formula.
I seem to have generated a great deal of misunderstanding by just explaining why a lower price wasn't advertised as such!Time is an illusion - lunch time doubly so.0 -
no criticism or insensitivity was meant towards bottle feeding just was a query regarding the reduction of first milk due to law.
We are very lucky in this country I think to have the choice to breast feed or bottle feed safely.
The issue with reduced formula (the way it has been explained to me) is that reduced price formula is a problem if prices are not kept low. The cost of buying product for child is then misrepresented or not sustainable. You may have a situation where a decision about method to feed is based in part on costs. Temporary price reductions are not useful for parents. Permanent pricing structure is better.Baby Milk Action is a non-profit organisation which aims to save lives and to end the avoidable suffering caused by inappropriate infant feeding.0 -
Sorry I wasn't trying to be nasty with my email... I realise that perhaps it was a little off topic too... but I just wanted to say to those that worry about having to move away from breastfeeding that it's not like you're harming your child. You know how it is when you read something and although you know that person didn't intend to offend, you take it to heart and it makes you respond. That's what I did. So sorry to the original posters who encouraged breastfeeding... it's just I didn't see it as such a black and white topic...
Anyway, it's glad to see baby bargains that don't just consist of '2 for £16 nappies' and BOGOF baby wipes. ;-)

Munki wrote:It is worth pointing out that for some mothers breast feeding is not at option, or at least at times is unsucessful. My wife became very depressed when our daughter didn't want to breast feed. She was in hosiptal for days trying, and in the end my wife managed to express breast milk for a coulple of weeks. It was impossible. My daughter was never going to get enough milk, so we had no choice but to move to formula. I know there are some mothers out there who totally reject breast feeding as an option right form the start, and I question whether they should be doing this.
Please be careful how this subject is handled, as, with my wife, she was very depressed about having to stop breastfeeding and it made her feel inadiquate. I'm sure there are others on this board who are having/have had similar problems and I'd just like to put their minds at ease that it isn't them - sometimes the little lazy monkeys simply don't want anything to do with breastfeeding (plus their pallets sometimes can't attach well enough to feed)... so don't worry.
Our daughter has been fed mostly on formula and is now a strong, intelligent and healthy little girl (even if I say so myself!) ;-)
Munki.
Thanks Munki. I was wanting to write something with a similar sentiment myself. Our little son is one week old, and breast feeding has proved very difficult for both my wife and son. It has been a very emotional time, and to read comments from other MSE members that make you feel you are not fit to be parents is of no help at all.0 -
I noticed a couple of old packets of Cow & Gate in Asda (Yarmouth) today and asked the price. It was still £5.99, so no incentive there.
I've not seen any lower prices in Tesco in Yarmouth, but Tesco in Stalham had plenty at just £2.98. I emptied the shelves.
On the subject of Breast is Best, we have three children and all have been breast fed. However, there comes a point where it's difficult to continue and the nutricianal requirements of the child change. It's also vital that there's some kind of backup if the mother should fall ill and/or require medication that would pass through the breast milk.
This has happened with our third child and, right now, being able to get a quality product at Tesco for 50% off is a real godsend.0 -
my first one refused to breast feed 18 yrs ago and the midwives and i tried EVERYTHING.however i went on to breast/bottle the next two and then found myself with the next 3 who refused bottles.
