Baby formulas in Tescos REDUCED!!!!

Hi
Shopping in our local tescos lastnight and Omneo baby formula milk was 1/2 price !! Other brands were also reduced!

We saved heaps as its normally £7.50 odd?? a tub now £3 something!

Hope it helps someone, I think it's being cleared as the packaging is changing.

They have been reducing baby formula in all their stores (they have been changing over from a 2 pack, that needed the plastic 'keep fresh' box, to an eaZypak (sp?) ) - whilst stocks last at all stores. Got a few for my little one, once I found this out.
Note: They are only showing it as 'Reduced to Clear' on the 6months+ formula, it doesnt show up as a discount on the first/plus milks.

This has been discussed here before, and I think it was concluded that it is illegal to promote baby milk (it being considered not to be as good for babies as breast milk), which would be why it doesn't show up on the earlier ones.

That may be the case but it is clearance and they have to get shot of it anyway. Whatever the price - compared to breast feeding formula is expensive as breast feeding is free.

The Cow and Gate formula in the old-style packaging in my local Tesco - Worcester - has now been reduced to 1/4 of the original price. There is not much left as I had most of the follow on milk. There were a couple of packs of first milk left though.

Of course it is, but something as simple as having to pay a price for them has never stopped unnecessary (for some people) products being successfully promoted using dishonest methods. So that is why there is a safeguard in place, in the form of the lower price not being advertised.

are the first milks reduced too as this is illegal without a doubt and the local trading standards would investigate if it was reported

Indeed. My local trading standards investigated my local Tesco. Unfortunately because they took 10 days to respond to the complaint, the Tesco had sold all of it's stock by the time the inspector got there.

However I did have a screen print of Tesco online prices, and these have been passed on to the TS area for Tesco headoffice to raise with them.

It is worth pointing out that for some mothers breast feeding is not at option, or at least at times is unsucessful. My wife became very depressed when our daughter didn't want to breast feed. She was in hosiptal for days trying, and in the end my wife managed to express breast milk for a coulple of weeks. It was impossible. My daughter was never going to get enough milk, so we had no choice but to move to formula. I know there are some mothers out there who totally reject breast feeding as an option right form the start, and I question whether they should be doing this.

Please be careful how this subject is handled, as, with my wife, she was very depressed about having to stop breastfeeding and it made her feel inadiquate. I'm sure there are others on this board who are having/have had similar problems and I'd just like to put their minds at ease that it isn't them - sometimes the little lazy monkeys simply don't want anything to do with breastfeeding (plus their pallets sometimes can't attach well enough to feed)... so don't worry.

Our daughter has been fed mostly on formula and is now a strong, intelligent and healthy little girl (even if I say so myself!) ;-)

    Nice to save.

I do completely understand what Munki is saying. Some babies simply are unable to breastfeed or will not. Others just take a little time to get used to it - and in the meantime there is untold pressure to give them formula - I had this when my son was born tiny and didn't know how to suck straight away - and I stuck to my guns because that was right for us. You have to go with what is best for you and your child and beggar everyone else!

Anyway moneysavers, why report Tesco for getting rid of old packaged stock cheaply when there is only limited supplies anyway - those people who have to buy formula to feed their kiddies will appreciate a short-term saving of a few quid because the stuff is so flippin' expensive normally. I sincerely doubt that Tesco are hardly doing it to promote formula feeding over breast feeding.
