Royal Mail Scam, Ripp Off

The royal mail are scamming people, last week we had to go and pay £1.09 topick up a card as not enough postage (£1 charge and 9p under paid) Then sent acard to my mother for mother’s day and she also had to go and pay £1.09 so Itold her to go and take it to the post office and ask how much to send thecard, they weighed it and checked size and said to her amazement, a regularfirst class stamp was all that was required. So where do they get off chargingthis extra charge for nothing and making you go and pick it up and get the cardpast the day it was meant for.
Their reply was that it is a different cost in different areas which is sountrue, this is how they are making their profits rise.

If they've over-charged in error, send the letter to them and they'll likely refund it. I don't personally think it's scamming because the rules are clearly laid out, the sizes are clearly defined and if they've made a mistake I'm sure they'll fix it.
There is an issue that different Post Offices charge different amounts sometimes, just because of how rules are interpreted. I've seen a Post Office staff member insist a letter drops through the size measure of its own accord without getting caught, and another that shoves it through and if it gets through somehow, she counts that as enough. The reality is probably the Royal Mail are quite lenient on such border-line cases.0 -
Is it really only 9p difference from normal to large letter? Or is there another element too the story?0

If someone put a first class stamp, value = 60p, but the letter was 'large' size, it is possible that the thing goes second class where the large letter price is 69p.Is it really only 9p difference from normal to large letter? Or is there another element too the story?

And I wonder how much it costs RM to pursue such minor under-charge issues? I doubt charging the under-charge (9p) plus £1 "penalty" covers their costs in dealing with it.0
