Strange Electric supply on our property?

Ok just after a bit of help please. We have owned a property since 1999 which we are now selling. Down the side of the property is an electric supply with cablevision written on it. It is not a meter but is definatly live. We have never bothered looking into what it is, why it is on our property etc as it's down the side of the house and is not in the way. We have never had anyone ask about it or come to check it the whole time we have owned the house. We have been renting the house for the last 8 years so have never bothered looking into it any further. Although yes we most probably should have
However today the buyer has asked us for more info about what it is and why it is there? Would anyone know what this may be and who we would need to contact to find out more info?
Thanks

If it says 'cablevision' what makes you think it is an electricity supply....?
Is it not more likely to be... errr... cable (tele)vision?0 -
Probably some sort of old cable TV service. Nothing to worry about...
Where do you live?:footie:Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

Dont know I'm a woman so have no idea!!!!! :rotfl:
My husband said it has a large electric cable that comes out of the floor into a 100amp fuse then travels up into a small fusebox where it looks like it is connected into another fuse and then some smaller wires that go into the box that says cablevision!!!! It has no dials on it like a normal electric meter.0 -
I would be tempted to get in touch with your local Electricity distribution company and see what they say, sounds like an unmetered supply for something that may of been there years ago.
They should be able to tell you who the supply belongs to and what if anything can be done about it0 -
Smile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0

I think there were several cablevision outfits in the UK, most (if not all) of which were subsequently bought/taken over by Telewest, which itself merged with NTL and, later, Virgin Mobile and Virgin.net. Unless it's changed again, it all comes under the Virgin Media brand now.
Therefore, it's possible that an enquiry to Virgin Media might yield some answers.
My guess would be some form of local distribution/repeater equipment, a 100amp fuse would indicate something quite powerful.0 -
CableVision was an old company that NTL bought out many years ago. Then of course NTL was taken over by Virgin Media.0
