Can you go and speak to your local pharmacist? They can give you a breakdown on all your nutritional, including vitamin, needs.
Vitamin A in tablets should be generally avoided, so specific pregnancy multivitamin pills do not contain it. However, eating Vitamin A from a food source is slightly different chemically. WHat you need is a healthy balanced diet that conatins all the vitamins, plus essential fatty acids to help your baby's brain and neural system develop. Again, please please speak to your pharmacist as they can help you.0 -
The particular concern is that excess vitamins (which are, after all, simply chemicals) could damage the unborn child. The vitamin which causes most concern in this respect is Vitamin A. In excess, this vitamin has been linked with birth defects. You should avoid vitamin A supplements in pregnancy, as well as food which has a very high vitamin A content, such as liver.
Some skin treatments also contain vitamin A or related chemicals, known as retinols or retinoids. Although these treatments are usually creams applied to the surface of the skin, the vitamin A in them can cross into the bloodstream. There's a risk this might affect the growing baby. These creams shouldn't be used during pregnancy.
Never take any medicine, food supplements or other treatments when you may be pregnant without discussing it with your doctor first.
it's the retinol version which causes the problems, not the beta-carotene version. Beta-carotene is what you would find in vegetables such as carrots and spinach etc.The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10

Avoid the vit A. It can be toxic as can normal vitamin tablets. At present I am 26 weeks and am taking pregnacre vitamins which are working well. Last time I took a tonic Spatone in orange every morning with breakfast after my iron levels started to drop. If in doubt try midwife/pharmacist for advice.0
