Bypass, good or bad?

My house is about 200 from bypass and for me it's perfect. Far enough that there's no disturbance unless you happen to be looking and listening in the exact right direction ... close enough that I can hop on and off without rush hour delays

If the road is in a 30 metre cutting, that should contain most of the noise.

Sound can be very odd. I live not far from a railway line. The back of our house faces that direction, with houses between us and the railway. I don't hear the sound of the trains at the back of the house. However I do hear the trains when in the front of the house (which faces away from the railway). It must come through the gaps between the houses and be reflected back off the houses on the other side of the road, whereas at the back of our house, the sound's being blocked by the houses behind us.

However, I can always hear the M1 at night which is about a mile away.
