Possible new Landlord wants work reference

Hi all,
I am in the process of renting a house privately and the landlord has asked for a works reference.
I've never needed one of these before so unsure as to what the letter needs to include. I've asked my manager if she could write me one up but she wants to know what information is needed.
Is it just the basics like hours and wage?
Thanks
Sharon.

You provide your employer's address. The LL writes and asks.... whatever he wants to ask. Your employers replies however he/she wants.
Getting your employer to write a reference and give it to you is mad (well, the landlord is mad to accept this). What is to stop you (or your brother) from writing a glowing reference yourself!
Just give the LL your employer's details.0 -
I have had a few landlords ask for this - both for myself and also for people who work for me.
They are only asking for confirmation that the person has a job in my experience.
They don't ask for any details other than that.
Should be nothing to worry about.0 -
I did offer works address but LL asked me to get it. She did state that she will be calling my employer to confirm everything.0

Completely routine- I always do this as a LL- either via an agent, or I'm happy with employers' ones by email if doing the checks myself. Just another reasonable part of the prudent battery of Bank, LL, credit references and ID checks to reduce the chance of you being victim of one of these 'urban myth' tenants from hell who skip without paying, rip out all the internal doors and put in a cannabis farm, or sub-let to 12 mates! (not that I've ever had a problem...)0

Generally what I would expect (as an employer who does these fromn time to time, and as a landlord) is to confirm person X is continuously employed by company Y and has been since date Z, possibly confirming they are paid salary £xx per annumMortgage May 2012 - £129k
January 2015 - Mortgage down to £114k
Target for 2015 to get down to £105k0 -

* date you started working there
* full/part time
* position/job title
* permenent or casual contract
* salary
* maybe some statement like "I consider this employee to be entirely trustworthy - optional.0 -
I am on the receiving end of these requests for those in my dept. They essentially want to know your status (full time/part time/registered student), length of contract and gross income. All employers receive them, they are much more straightforward than character references.They are an EYESORES!!!!0
