Renewing NS&I Saving Certificate

Hello everyone, My saving cert is due for renewal next month. I'm thinking that there is no real advantage (in terms of investment return) to renew for 5 years instead of 3 or even the other way round since there is no guarantee that the RPI will be up or down at the end of either term. Would your thinking be the same or am I missing something here?

Assuming that nothing has changed since my last maturity letter...

One thing to consider is that when the reinvestment offer comes is that the rate on offer will be guaranteed if the certificate is allowed to roll over to another OF THE SAME DURATION. If you choose a different duration the rate will be whatever is set at the maturity date.
