One of the message forums I use, has only been going for about 2/3 weeks.
One of the members posts have been quite offensive to many members.
I enquired why there was no button to alert the web master/moderators and seemingly they didn't realise they could have one. I was told to tell you they are on phpBB2 for what it's worth. Maybe that will mean something to you.
Could anyone help please?

I vote for an abuse button too.
I have been a global moderator before (not for this site!) and admit they can be overused i.e. someone has been rude or sarcastic but I have seen many spam postings in my first week here and a couple of seriously offensive posts.
I don't like using Outlook so an abuse button programmed to notify the moderators of, say:
a) any click by a regular member in response to the first post of a new member (for spam)
b) ten clicks by regular members to any post (possibly offensive)
would be ideal, if that ca be arranged on this particular website/provider etc.Aiming to pay off mortgage by my 30th birthday... £39438 to go!

phpbb3 has a report posts function:
http://www.phpbb.com/support/documentation/3.0/moderatorguide/moderator_reported.php
But that is still Beta (and not Beta the way Google calls things Beta, it's still described as 'Unstable') though a lot of sites are running it now without a problem.0 -
Phpbb as a forum is "out of the box" a pretty standard affair. There are LOTS and LOTS of mods available that can add functionality that was never written into the forum in the first place. Games, security, admin panels, logging sections can all be added but it has to be by the forum owner as they need to update files and install new ones.
If they go to the phpbb homepage and search the support/mod section there should be something there to add whatever they need.0 -
This board runs on VBulletin.
Another forum I visit also runs VB and it has a report post button so I think it's a standard feature that MSE has turned off and instaed the button simply is a mailto tag0 -
that takes you straight to reporting an abuse
bottom left of posts
i have previously asked the team about a way of simply highlighting an abuse without having to email someone which frankly i think is a headache and people will avoid reporting an abuse because they cant be bothered and was told:Originally Posted by MSE Martin
Abuse can only be reported by email as guests can then report abuse too - plus we use an email managment system to ensure every report is looked at.

probably is a mod out there to do it but i imagine it would be a nightmare for this site because of the size of the forum, think it would seriously increase the server load and bugs plus the problems of implementing itYes Your Dukeiness
