Washing machine loads

I have just bought a new washing machine which was advertised as having a 8kg load capacity. However, the easy care maximum load is only 3.5kg and this is the program I mainly use. It is only the cotton program which has a 8kg capacity which I never use. Does anyone know why this is?
Thanks

easy care is a gentle wash, the washing would get squished up in the drum if you filled it up to 8kg which wouldnt be the definition of "gentle"0
