So you have a criminal record, and you have lied with regard to your degree classification. Do you think that makes you an attractive employee?

Some interesting previous posts - especially the one asking if your convictions would show up if you changed your name!

Im glad Im not with Barclays if this is how they employ even back room staff, I wouldn't employ the OP to sweep the streets never mind in a bank.

Yes they will check everything (not a CRB check though, that's not relevant).

I think you need to stop lying on your CV and try to find a job normally. I'm sure it's difficult with unspent convictions (and to be fair, here you weren't asked about them) but you do need to be honest when you are. And the fake degree etc is really silly, most employers check these things out.

I think you need to come clean with the agency otherwise, when you are rejected and they are told why, it damages their reputation with the employer, and will seriously pee them off about you, and there goes any hope of getting a job through them and any other recruitment contacts they may have.

Likewise references - if these are fake, you are ducked. Employers don't ask for them because we like to see other companies addresses written down, we do actually contact the references! And check out that it's a legit reference not just one of your mates...
Cash not ash from January 2nd 2011: £2565.:j

OU student: A103 , A215 , A316 all done. Currently A230 all leading to an English Literature degree.

Any advice given is as an individual, not as a representative of my firm.

The will do all checks except a CRB.

The bank I work for uses an outsource company to do all there checks, I incorrectly put a B instead of C for an A level, was pulled in for a "meeting", thankfully my CV was correct so they understood it was just an error.

I imagine your lies will come back to haunt you.
    Bad luck breeds bad luck.

    Damn I'm doomed.

    Hi,

I hate to say it but you're digging a deeper and deeper hole here potentially. They will want to see your degree certificate. Did you actually go to university at all?
If you lie about the convictions and they then come up then you're going to marched out of there at the very least. I notice in the past you've asked about changing your name and whether that would leave any 'trace' back to your old name...failing to declare name changes are a massive no-no too.
I appreciate it must be tough in the jobs market if you've got convictions, but lying and scamming your way forward is really not going to help, it's going to make things worse.
I see back in 2011 you were asking about getting jobs in the financial industry and you still are keen on that environment now. To be blunt, it's not going to happen now - but could, potentially, if you keep your nose clean, get a job - any job for now - build up some work experience and references. Let your convictions become spent and then look towards your longer term career plans.
People make bad decisions sometimes, !!!!!! happens, but it's what we learn from them that really matters imo.
    Good luck

Trust me, I don't currently work for Barclays but know for a fact that they perform background checks on all new employees whatever pay grade they are at. It's a matter of policy, they need to conduct checks on employees as most of them will work with highly sensitive personal and financial data (and even those who don't directly work with this data will be working on premises where this data is held). Their checks will include contacting the university to check you attended and your grade (if the university you named no longer exists, they will accept a transcript of your degree certificate). They will also do a previous employment check (including checking employment dates and the reason for leaving) and a credit check etc.

Whilst of course I completely disagree with your lying on your CV, have to say I think your recruiter is somewhat irresponsible for not having warned you that background checks are pretty much mandatory across most of the financial sector.

Every employer I've ever had has asked to see my degree certificate. In fact, some financial ones even contacted the Open University to verify that I was studying for a second degree with them.

If it's not true, don't put it on your CV. Also, almost all financial types will do CRB and Credit checks, though I've never been shown the door over my credit (I had problems but are now gone and staying gone about 5 years ago).

The other thing is as you've lied on your CV, it will come out. It's doubtful that recruiter will consider you for any further roles. What's more is recruiters do talk; you're making it more likely that your CV will not even get considered! Recruiters are sales people, you lying on your CV basically loses them a sale and costs them confidence in their client. You're basically making no friends. In the past, I've closed the door on agencies themselves when I have caught candidates in outright BS!

Why not go study up on some subjects employers require and add that you have demonstrable skill in those areas even if inexperienced? Better to look like an attractive and keen junior rather than a lying no-way-is-he senior!

Barclays do thorough Pre Employment Screening.

And OP, stop talking through your backside on your CV and applications. Seriously.

Is 'stepped down' a Barclays term? Because otherwise what you've written is completely incorrect.
