Barclays interview through a recruiter

Do barclays perform background checks on ALL new employees, no matter what the role is?

i may be in denial, but i have a criminal convictions (majority of them were caution and some convicted community service, and recently came out from prison, went inside for 2 months)

do they check all this as well as your education checks and credit checks as well?

the job role is pretty basic administrative work

im just deciding as im in 2 minds... :/

I don't think that they do CRB checks but don't most application forms ask about criminal convictions?

since my recruiter put me forward i have not filled out or seen any form for me to fill out about my past etc...

unless i do get this job and she/he gives me the contract to sign and it states in the contract that they will perform all these checks...?

I'm with Beanie, I thought most application forms asked. I'm assuming you didn't declare any? Your convictions, if I'm reading it correctly, wouldn't be spent (ie 5 years old or more) so should have been declared. If they do come up I would guess you would likely be shown the door. I wouldn't have thought they'd do a CRB, as that's not really right for this sort of job, but as a financial institution, wouldn't they check out convictions??

ETA: just seen your reply... did your recruiter ask you about convictions? If you haven't been given the opportunity to declare them then you haven't done anything wrong really.

    this was the process:

i was applying all over the internet for jobs

    2) recruiter called me and said they liked my cv, they would like to put me forward for "said" job...

    3) i said yes etc etc... they then said its barclays....

    4) nowhere along the lines did they send me a form to fill in or did they ask me if i have any convictions...

    5) i had a pre-interview practice last week and the woman said to me "did i get a 2:1? because they will check these things"... so by her saying that, made me think they will probably do ALL the checks as they are a bank...

if they do do CRB/REFERENCE/CREDIT/EDUCATION checks, then i am 100% finished on those counts ... :/
  • To be honest, from my experience they are likely to do checks. Banking is obviously a high risk environment. But depends whether its branch, call centre etc.

However you have nothing to lose. So unless they ask you dont need to raise it. And if they do you need to be honest and hopefully they will see more positives than the convictions.

If not - on to the next one and keep going. Good Luck:)

Not much help, but I got turned down for three high street banks due to credit issues. I passed all their tests and still was rejected. However these were point of contact in branch positions.
Bedroom Tax / Spare room subsidy / Housing Benefit Reduction - It's the same thing, get over it.

I used to work for a bank and they did not CRB check me. Those are usually only done for people who will be working with children or vulnerable adults so I think you will be ok.

They WILL credit check you and probably ask for evidence of your qualifications to check those.
