Hi every1 just a post to ask for your opinions and advice please!
sorry if in wrong place please feel free to move!!
Well firstly as the title states i think i may have this as embarrasing as it may be although im not really 100%, thing is alot of people have often said they think i have it to which i always reply no but over the past few weeks i have actually realised what i am doing and how it makes me feel i am quite embarrased posting this under my own username but never mind here goes!!
I always have to put things in a certain order like my dish drainer has to be at a certain angle, my plates have to be a certain way i will not let anyone else help me as they dont do it to my standards i dont know why i am like this but i am and always have been i cant stand people coming round because i know all i am bothered about is my house being clean (call me houseproud i dunno) but i think it has gone beyond this as i do it all the time i just dont sit down and if something is out of place i cannot settle and get aggravated until it is put right! it does get me down cos when i go to other peoples house they arent like me and i wish sometimes i could be more like them but i cant!!
I dont know if it is OCD or something similar but i just feel its far more than just wanting a tidy house and with 2 kids i feel i am depriving them of their childhood they should have and it does upset me to admit this.
If anyone has any advice or opinions please feel free to let me know!!
thanks in advance

Hello,
Don't feel alone on this one,I am exactly the same! I nearly drive my husband insane with my constant cleaning!
I too have my plates lined up & my cups all facing the same way. I also like my towels folded & put away in a certain way.
I am terrible when i have visitors round, constantly tidying around & once they've gone i do it all again.
My OH has questioned if i'm ocd on plenty of occassions & yes i have sat & thought about it myself...And i don't think i am! I come from a very house proud family who hoovered & polished etc every day. I think i'm just the same now i've left & set up my own home.
I have to admit that sometimes i think why do i bother when OH comes in & makes a mess in every ruddy room! Ha!
Bless him i have to admit that he does try but he doesnt always do it as i would (although his bed making skills are much improved!):rotfl:
I just think some of us like a tidy house.
BeckyOur 1st baby is due 29th December 2007! :rudolf:
I'm hopeful that this get's me out of cooking Christmas dinner!
Baby Ruby arrived after 55 hours of labour & an emergency c section on Christmas Day at 14.41 weighing 6lb 6oz...And yes I did get out of cooking Christmas dinner!!:rotfl:0 -
i would hit the thanks button but for some reason its not been working lately so i will say thanks now!!
so glad to hear im not alone!! it does make you feel down though sometimes just sit thinking when they going or hurry up with your cup so i can wash it if there is only 1 cup i will fill a sink up!! i cannot settle till my house is how i like it!!! then everything gets ruined and i 2 think why did i bother!!!
thanks again and nice to know someone else is in the same boat!! haha!

Hi
It sounds like you might have OCD - what happens if you challenge yourself not to do things just so?
The phobics soceity is very good for helping to overcome it OCD.http://www.phobics-society.org.uk/0 -
My OH has this very annoying habit of wanting to drink very strong coffee in the same cup with just a quick rinse round, the amount of times i've wrestled it off him & washed it before it get's completly stained is stupid!
OH alway's says...why do you do all this clening everyday? I don't really know why i feel the need to do it but i always have!
I'm pregnant now & it's very early on but i'm already thinking thing's will probably be more difficult to keep on top of when little one arrives!;)
Husband will love helping out with the cleaning more tho i'm sure! :rotfl:Our 1st baby is due 29th December 2007! :rudolf:

I was going to say the same...Don't worry there is nothing to be ashamed of at all. I think everyone actually has their own little version of OCD going on somewhere in their life. It used to be known as being eccentric (or obsession), but now part of that is labelled OCD, which sounds much more serious. But in all honesty if it doesn't ruin your life, don't let it get on your mind.
Personally, I have my own little version of it, I can not bare to touch the final door of public toilets at all. I have to use toilet paper, my sleave, paper towel anything but my lovely clean hands!. Same with when I get home, I can't possibly consider doing anything in the house before I wash my hands.
Same with shoes inside the house, can't stand it. Everyone has to take their shoes off before they come in, even workmen!! I have just about managed to say nothing if we have had a party, but still that is a strain till I let it happen in my mind!
I can list of a whole manor of habits that friends of mine have that would fit under the brush of OCD!0 -
Mine is having to check the corners of the bedroom everynight before I go to bed, having to double check the door is locked, the car is locked, the kettle is off the rayburn and the rayburn is shut down.
sometimes I'll get up at 1/2 am to double check everything again. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 10

I'm the same with some things. Curtains particularly. Admittedly I am worse now our flat is smaller as it gets dirty and untidier so much quicker. Does it get worse in times of stress? Some people let this sort of thing go a bit, some get worse as it's part of your life you can control. If you feel that it is controlling you rather than the other way round then maybe have a word with your GP? Maybe have a designated play area which the kids can mess up more?
Though reading through the posts again it looks like an OH mess area may be more appropriate.Annabeth Charlotte arrived on 7th February 2008, 2.5 weeks early0 -
can you come and be OCD in my house please it's a tip
no seriously if it stresses you out if you don't do it and you feel it's getting in the way of you enjoying life then go and see your GP and get some help. It sounds to me like you have a control issue but not necessarily OCD which tends to be characterised by repetitive behaviour (handwashing is a classic) so if you were constantly straightening the same thing or had to get up and go and check that your cupboards were in order even though you'd just done it that's more OCD. It sounds to me as though you just have a high standards. However any control issues whether they're about food or straightening things in the home may be a sign of other issues in your life that you feel less in control of so it's well worth talking it over with your GP and maybe seeing if you can get a series of counselling sessions. You're not a candidate for the white coats just yet though0 -
i'm the same but its more because of the autism (aspergers) than anything else - if my pens are not in a certain order or my cup is not in correct place, it annoyes me untill i have sorted it lol.
People think you're mental but let them think waht they want.
If you want a diagnosis on OCD then talk to your GP who will give you that or send you to a clinical psychologistNever do things tomorow when you can do them today.0 -
Dredging my memory, the clinical criteria for OCD are (unsurprisingly) obsessions and compulsions. Obsessions are persistent, repetitive unbidden thoughts which cause the sufferer distress (eg fear of contamination), and compulsions are repetitive behaviours which are undertaken to alleviate the distress caused by the obsession (eg excessive cleaning).
You can be a clean freak, a perfectionist or a control junkie (no pejorative intent meant!) without having OCD.
If you do have OCD, then there are treatments which can help. The most successful are behavioural but they are quite gruelling and there is a high drop out rate (they involve confronting your fears). Most people are improved rather than cured completely, and there is a fairly high relapse rate at times of stress.
If you think you may have OCD and it is causing you or others in your family distress, then I would ask your GP to refer you to a therapist specialising in this area. If its not causing you or others undue distress though, I would ignore the advice of well meaning friends. Mental health is a spectrum, and we all have quirks which might at times be regarded as pathalogical, but if its not harming anyone, then I personally see no need for treatment. vive la difference!0
