Bailing a country with debt

The details are irrelevant, but I got scammed by medical fees (for my son) in Bali (for instance they wanted $30 for a tea spoon of Vaseline, $90 for a bandage etc...) I offered to settle for a reasonable cost but they declined.
They retained my partners passport until payment the following day since their visa machine was kaput.
The following morning I waited in the car at the end of the alley and my partner went in and once the passport was in her hand, bolted and jumped in the car. We sped away and was off the island within a few hours.
We need to head back to Indonesia this summer and my partner thinks we need to avoid Bali, I don't for a second think we will get busted at the border. But avoiding Bali is going to be a lot of hassle.
Has anyone got any experience of similar things? My next closest was running up a some fines in the US (tolls) and I have never been pulled on them at the border.
Thanks in advance

Skipping a country with outstanding debt is one thing, but you have described obtaining goods or services and then bolting to avoid paying for them, which would be viewed as fraud. In days of old as a student in Ye Olde Englandshire when I earned my beer money working in a restaurant, for folk caught doing a runner without paying, I recall the offence being obtaining pecuniary advantage by deception.
Whether or not such a rash act comes back to bite you only time will tell, but the average Indonesian will not take kindly to your actions, therefore I would be more inclined to concern myself about those I owed the monies to rather than the authorities. The MSE Dictionary

I might normally have suggested to be safe rather than sorry and go to Skegness instead.
However, in this case. maybe not.
