HELP PLEASE - MS Money won't open

Can anyone help a silver surfer facing financial chaos here.

I'm using MS Money 2001 (Old version, but suits me and have never had a problem - use almost daily)

Today won't open, gives me a message saying possibly corrupt, tried going to START, run and opening from there, but still same. Password box opens, I type in password, and get can't open message. Password is correct. I've even experimented entering password I know is wrong and this brings up 'wrong password message'.

I backup after every use, but when opening the backup file from yesterday I still go through the 'can't open' message.

My list of files is showing:
My Money3 - today's date - 6.468 KB
My Money3 backup - yesterday's date -6.470 KB
and a mysterious file called
My Money3.lrd - today's date - 1 KB

each time I try to open Money today it creates another backup file, so I've ignored these - none of them open either.

I've googled the problem and what lrd files are, but am completely confused at all the information and am nervous about following some instruction that could hi-jack my money info.

I do backup onto external hard-drive each month, but trying to open from this will miss last 2 weeks of info and I'm afraid might corrupt this backup file too, so haven't tried it.

Sorry to be so long winded, but trying to explain fully and panicing at same time!!

    OK folks.

Have stopped panicing. Bitten the bullet and deleted all ms money files, then restored from 'Clickfree Backup'. Has taken me back to end of February, but will just have to re-enter financial transactions since then.

First time I've had to restore from this device, but realise its worth now.

For future occasions (hopefully not!!) - Set up to save My Money backup on a seperate device ( USB stick or different hard drive -not "C") when you close the programme.
If you have a problem as above, uninstall MSMoney from the C drive, then reinstall followed by a restore using the back up you have saved elsewhere.
I've had to do this a couple of times with my version (MSMoney 99) but at least it minimises the number of new entries after the reinstall.
EDIT - re-reading your posts, does Click Free restore the actual programme?? Don't think it does, so if the programme file gets corrupted rather tha the back up ,presumably your method won't help.

    Thanks I'll keep this info.

I restored the money file and its backup from clickfree, but I also dug out an old disc of Microsoft Works Suite which included Money 2004. I installed Money from it and it picked up the restored money files.

Working well, but spent some time entering as much of the last 2 weeks info as possible.

But reinstalling it should not delete your current data-the data files are held separately to the actual program files. You just needed to reinstall and import from the default file location.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)

I tried this, but all the existing money data files gave the same 'unable to open - possibly corrupt file' message. Only worked after I had removed all existing money data files and restored ones from clickfree backup. No problem picking up the data from these.
