Oooh thanks for posting about this Ellie. I've got into it and although I'm not a part of a pod, I have started making some of these bags. Apparently Virgin trains are giving away some of these for their green campaign, so I've sent off some bags towards that.

And my own bag lives in my handbag so whenever I pick something up from teh shops, I can refuse a bag!
  • I passed the link on to my Aunt who is a whizz on the sewing machine. I hope she will make me one now as I'm hopeless at sewing!

Granny has donated her old sewing machine to me, when she finds the instruction book then I can finally try one of these. Shouldn't be too taxing for a beginner should it??

There were five of us at the first one and we weren't too organised so we only managed four bags! I got a bit about it in the local paper and have had a call from one person who is going to join us at the next meeting and several donations of old curtains etc. my house is looking a bit like a jumble sale at the moment.

We also have two people who are sewing as and when they can at home so already have another four from that.

We are going to aim to do 100 bags before we go out and start handing them out so that it is quite an event and we can try to get some local newspaper and possibly television coverage!!

I'm sure at the next meeting (we are going to meet on the second Friday of each month) we will be much more organised - I think I may cut the fabric at home before hand and then we should be much more producive - will also try to get another bit in the paper and hopefully a photo too, this should drum up a few more people to join!

Well done for getting it in the local paper! :T
  • Hi Bunglegirl - brilliant news about you holding a morsbag-making meeting! :) And getting in the local paper... just wondered if you'd registered a pod with morsbags? That way your bag total gets added to the main total on the site and inspires others to join, and encourages the whales!

We're SOO close to 10,000 morsbags made and we want to reach that number by the 14th January as that's the date we started a year ago, so please add your bags to us if you'd made some.

    Happy Bagging!

I still haven't managed to attempt one :o
  • Happy New Year! Just thought I'd write and give you an update on morsbags as it's the 2nd birthday on Wednesday :)

In just 2 years over 35,200 recycled fabric morsbags have been made and given away for free, potentially replacing well over 17 million plastic bags, with 718 pods making them around the world.

Please join in and make a bag or 10, and thanks to those who already have... :T

    i haven't got a sewing machine though...

No sewing machine? There's a number of duct tape variations of the sewed bag for life. This one and this one too. I've also seen it done with duct tape and woven strips of supermarket bag for life bags and with a mix of fabric and duct tape too.

I made 2 for my sister as part of her Xmas gift. They were so easy to make and were great. I'm going to make more for myself once my bought supermarket bags have had it.
Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia. ;)
