Am I Missing Something Here?

I listed a load of DVDs on Ebay at the weekend. One finishes Saturday and has bids of £1.70 (with 4 days to go). On Amazon it's going for 7p used and £3.25 new with free delivery (my postage is £1.20)

Not that I'm complaining obviously...

Not everyone who shops on Ebay knows about second hand bargains on Amazon.

At the moment I'm buying up dvds (i've just cancelled sky and my tv licence) and I'm bidding up to (but try and avoid spending more) the ammount on Amazon because I have money in my paypal account and I dont want to spend my 'real' money.

Whats the p&p like on the 7p dvd?!

With all the free listing weekends, some private sellers have some spare cash in their Paypal accounts. They probably use this store of 'free cash' for eBay (even if the actual price is higher), since using a credit/debit card on Amazon would physically cost them - whilst there is a surplus sitting in Paypal.

There's more than price to shopping, I'd much rather pay more to you than to Zoverstocks who have no phone contact available and completely ignore customer's emails after not sending orders out...

  • I agree, and wouldn't touch them with a bargepole. I sell on Amazon as part of my "day job" and the constant undercutting does my head in. I've heard quite a few stories of them cancelling orders and not replying to emails etc.

Why don't you withdraw that money and spend it at Amazon if Amazon prices are cheaper?

Not saying the poster does this, but some people don't like to transfer their funds from paypal into their bank account in case they are claiming jsa or a similar benefit. I believe some claimants have had a lot of grief just because they sold a few bits on ebay to raise some extra pennies.
So they avoid transfering the money to save hassle!

Ha ha. Nope I dont claim JSA (work full time :-( ) But I dont like to have my paypal linked to my bank account. I have very little self control and when it comes to buying things I 'want' rather than 'need' I'd rather spend the money in my paypal that I've had to sell stuff for instead of having easy access to my 'real' money. If I see something I 'want' and its a bargain and I just have to have it, if I dont have the money in paypal I cant have it. I find it more of a clear line and wouldnt trust myself to transfer back over the funds. I do the same with dominos. If I want it and there's money in PP I am more likely to get it but wont use 'real' money for it.
