Buying Fitted Bedroom...advice wanted

Options
I am considering buying some fitted bedroom furniture from B&Q. There seem to be a number of other offers around at the moment.

Can anyone give me advice or comment on B&Q and/or other competitors and if you've seen any good offers, please let me know.

Thanks in advance

Unless you are completely set on buying fitted furniture, I'd have a look at bedroom furniture in Ikea. We have some new wardrobes from there which have lots of different accessories eg I have 3 pull out drawers in one wardrobe, and a pull out laundry bag in another. I know at the time Ikea were better value than B&Q.

    Good luck with it.

i have to agree that the wardrobes in ikea are great value and offer lots of storage ideas. the only problem is that they do not do matching bedside cupboards, dressing tables etc. i am in the process of installing a new bedroom for my mother, she wanted wardrobes fitted to wall with matching chests, dresssing table, corner units etc.we decided on a range from mfi, from their so called sale ( which seems to last all year).the wardrobe carcasses are very flimsy and cheap looking on their own,the doors and the freestanding units do look nice, and when they are all brought together, do look the part.
as with most things nowdays, i think they are overpriced for what they are, but not having £5000+ to spend on a posh make we are quite happy with the look we've achieved

good luck, and always measure twice, cut once!!

I am having some put in from ikea, and they offer a huge amount of space. The big tall brown ones with the drawers in :)You can get matching bedside tables etc but they give so much storage i will not need anything else. The all matching all fitted look is a bit dated anyway IMO and doesn't offer you any flexibility, and many bedrooms I have seen all fitted look like an enlarged caravan interior, know what I mean?

We've just got rid of some bedroom furniture we had from MFI and although it looked ok it wasn't exactly well built. The bottoms of a couple of the drawers fell through and the wardrobes weren't very stable , we had to be careful when we moved them , but I wouldn't have thought you would have to spend 5000+ to get decent furniture. Our new furniture is made by Nolte and for a huge wardrobe , a chest of drawers and a large cupboard , it didn't cost anywhere near that and it seems very good quality. It's made in Germany which probably explains it

We should have measured twice as when the furniture was delivered , the wardrobe wouldn't fit where we'd planned it to go , oops! :o Fortunately there was room on the opposite wall , but we had to have an electrical socket moved first :(

We have wardrobes and drawers etc. from Ikea and were a bit worried that they may not survive a house move, thought they might drop to bits, but there were no problems with them. We have had them for 6 years now and apart from the bottom falling out of one drawer when I stuffed too many t shirts in, they still look good.

i have had mfi bedroom furniture and liked the way you could get corner units for laundry to match in with other drawer units etc giving a clean line to my daughter's small room.

I also have ikea furniture and its a good idea to look at all the ranges as in my bedroom now I have a couple of living room units that match in well with a bedroom chest of drawers :D

The Pax Lomen range from Ikea has a chest of drawers and bedside tables to match the wardrobes. The range of internal fixtures is huge - wooden or plastic drawers/ metal or wooden shelving/ pull-out trouser racks - and they are very much cheaper than MFI.

MFI fitted bedrooms (the Schreiber range) are very good quality, IMO, and we fitted our bedroom earlier this year with their cheaper range, Milan. I had previously been against fitted bedrooms as looking too traditional and "old" but I have to admit (&blow my own trumpet) that with a bit of clever design you can have a up to date looking room with lots of storage.

If our bedroom was larger I would probably have gone for freestanding furniture from somewhere like Ikea, or possibly old stuff done up, painted etc?

Think about your plans carefully before you order anything, try and empty the room and put a mattress or quilt where the bed will be - to see how it fits and if you can fit everything in around it.

Our bedroom is VERY small but now its done and we've added a few special features, I absolutely love it:j

There was very little hammering - honestly. It did take two of us though - one to hold up the sides etc, and the other to screw them together. After the 6th one, we had it down pat! ;)
