Investing in wine!!

A friend of mine has been asking me my thoughts on investing, looked at a few sites that offer an investment service, and the growth seems very good, just wondered what the general opinion on here was.

only if youve run out of sensible investments.

These " investment services " can be scams; your friend needs to be careful.

Wine can be and has been an excellent investment but ( IMHO ) you need a) a fair bit of money ( so as not to be invested all in one case ), b) a place to store it and c) a decent understanding of wine. There is an excellent article in Decanter magazine ( here ), and there is a first-class anti-scam site called investdrinks which is a must-read.

One final thing; wines, like most other assets right now, are possibly getting over-priced - the easy money has ( probably ) been made. So unless your friend is quite knowledgeable I would advise him or her to give it a miss and stick to conventional investments.
  • This was pretty much my view, there are far better ways he should invest his money, like a pot to p155 in, as he hasn't really got one of them.

Think his head was turned by the figures...
