Got a Met Parking Service notice

Hi Guys,

I've been reading all posts regarding these private companies and I just wanted a bit of advice on mine.

Yesterday I got a private charge notice on my windscreen on my car at my local leisure centre. I was parked outside a bay, which I've been doing for years. The car park management is relatively new.

They recently got Met in to manage and so I got my fine yesterday.

I don't have the invoice in front of me, but it was to the effect that I was 'causing an obstruction' (which I was not).

My first plan is to speak to the centre manager sensibly and ask them to get the fine overturned.

Failing that, I'm planning to reply with the template letter provided on this site, or should I just totally ignore?

Their ticket person also parked in a disabled bay. So I'm really tempted to send them a notice of my own with my own photographic proof.

If the centre manager doesn't co-operate, I'm very tempted to flyer all the cars to let people know not to pay as it's a private company. The more that people know and don't pay, the less able the company is to be able to do anything about it.

Your thoughts?

J

IMHO they are all good ideas - except that if you appeal then don't use any template from this site. The suggested 'template responses' were written a while back, and not written with any input from us regulars on the forum, things move on quickly regarding appeals for fake PCNs and that template is fairly unhelpful - and will never work.

If the Centre manager won't cancel it (and yes I would try that first, that approach does work sometimes) then I'd recommend a challenge against the legal basis of the ticket, such as described and discussed on this pepipoo thread:

If this was in England/Wales you must then be given a POPLA code when MET reject. Then you can really go to town on your POPLA appeal, funded by MET, and probably winnable by you. Even if a POPLA decision doesn't find in your favour, it's not binding on you (only binding on the PPC which is why you want to win it).

Some winning POPLA appeals and some initial losses where more needed to be added:

and a similar MET thread from a week ago, the person is just a bit further ahead than you in the appealing game:

And love your idea about putting flyers on cars, I think it was driver8 who used to post pics of where he'd put flyers on windscreens of every car in a massive car park!

Suitable pepipoo flyers ready to print off here:

    ...or make your own! :)
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Thank you so much CM, will take your advice and am going to make use of those leaflets from the pepipoo website. Am going to get lots of copies made! :-)
