Dettox Queen needs help

I'm the Dettox queen in my kitchen. I don't feel i've killed the germs unless i've dettoxed my work surface...I need your advice. What do you all use on your surfaces? Do you clean differently if you have had raw meat near/on them?

Its the only room i do not clean 'old style', pls help

    Hello,

I used to use dettox too, but now I use Zoflora (really really concentrated disinfectant, can be bought in Wilkinsons for about 50p) You mix it one part to forty.

I use this in my old dettox bottle, no ill effects what so ever. I use this regularly and blitz before and after preparing fish and chicken.

i just use a microfibre cloth that i use for my dishes, a quick swish around the work surfaces after washing up then throw it in the washing machine when its dirty. i don`t think i have ever disinfected my kitchen:confused: and we are all still happy healthy and alive! :D

Milton if it's really necessary. Or supermarket generic stuff cos Milton's expensive. And then only if I find slime from a rolled under the cooker piece of veg.

Sometimes I feel we over clean our lives and our bodies need to have something to counteract in order to 'practice' for the real nasties which invade us from time to time. Got to keep the immune system in working order!

I was told by a chef that all you really need to sanitise kitchen surfaces is a weak solution of bleach and a clean rag. I teasspoon to a bucket is all you need. Make sure that the water is not hot as this will neutralise the bleach - just tepid is enough. This will kil any germ you normally find in a kitchen, including salmonella. Been doing this for years and still alive.

I tend to use a cloth and hot water and wipe over. If I have been chopping meat or chicken then I use a mild bleach solution to wipe over instead. When I do my big kitchen clean when everything gets wiped (cupboard doors etc)I use some stardrops and hot water.

Vinegar spray and a clean cloth for me.

I used to be the dettox queen too, however, I've been converted.

My final straw was when I'd cleaned the surfaces down with dettox, and then randomly decided to see what happened when I cleaned them down with vinegar .. the amount of dirt it removed was scarey, especially as I didn't think the surfaces were dirty to begin with.

Hot water, elbow grease, ecover and sometimes stardrops for me - I live on a boat and all "grey water" goes into the river.

The cleaner at work sticks bleach down the loo and it brings tears to my eyes!

People worry about "superbugs" like MRSA, but they are going to get worse if we continue to overuse antibiotics and antibacterials.

We are being tricked into buying these nasties because we are made to feel that we are not keeping our homes clean and safe if we don't use them. Would you spray your dinner plate with dettox before eating off of it?

I must clamber down from my soapbox ;) but think back a few generations before us - they managed ok without all of the unnecessary chemical nasties on offer today.

go on...............ditch the dettox, your immune system will thank you for it:T
