Hi,
Through my bank I signed up to a company called The magazine service. It provided, at discount, a magazine subscriptions service as I was a bank customer.
This was in place over a period of time, but eventually I decided to cancel my account with them in 2011.
They took payments via my credit card, but alas to my amazement even though I telephoned and cancelled the account they are still taking payments. I have never received notification from them that my account was cancelled, but they infomed me they didnt do that. I have phoned several times, written and emailed, I am still being charged and have heard nothing back from them. I have obviously informed my credit card company of payments being taken when goods not supplied and they have refunded my account.
Is there anything else I can do to stop this company as its still happening every month.

Did you tell the CC co that you cancelled the agreement and the date it was done?
As goods not recieved and cancelled CPA are two totally diffrent chargebacks.
As to anything else you can do.. No.
Up side is it is costing the Co each time a chargeback is made against them.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -

I informed them that I cancelled the account and the date, sorry goods not received was my mistake.
So yes they know I am being charged unnecessarily.0 -
Cancel your credit card as if it were lost and get a new one with a different number, that will kill the continuous payment authority. Send the company a letter before action recorded delivery asking for a full refund of the overpayments. In future cancel all contracts in writing not by telephone, keep copies of the letter and proof of posting/ recorded delivery receipt.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Are you sure? There have been cases previously of automatic renewal for services being taken from their account where it was a new card and even when the account had been closed!
OP needs to put the cancellation in writing to the bank. That way if any further payments are taken....bank has to refund them immediately.
OP, do you have any sort of proof that you cancelled with them way back then? You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride0 -

Will people STOP posting this.....
It is totally wrong. All you are doing is putting the card holder at a inconvience for NO gain.
Both Visa & mastercard have systems in place that allow a retailer to simply request the new card details and continue to process the payments.Never ASSUME anything its makes a>>> A55 of U & ME <<<0 -
I found this thread after posting a similar message in this forum about "The Magazine Service".
It seems that The Magazine Service may have ceased trading (or changed its name?). The magazine to which I subscribed ceased arriving some months ago, but the monthly cost is still being debited to my credit card account.
I have written to both the Magazine Service and my card company cancelling the subscription/CPA, saying that I do not authorise any further charges, and seeking a refund of the amounts taken in respect of magazines not delivered over the past seven months.
Any clues as to what The Magazine Service is up to - if it still exists - would be interesting to know.0 -
Hi, I'm having the exact same problem! But unfortunately the money comes directly out of my current account on my debit card, so I can't claim the money back like on a credit card! The only way I know how to stop it, is to close my whole account, which all my bills come out of, very disrupting.
Has anyone got the contact details to this company please? So I can try & cancel myself. Thank you x0 -
Debit cards can do chargebacks too, try contacting your bank and see if they will help.0

There's no need to close your account. Simply instruct your bank - in writing if necessary - that they must not make any further payments to the company. They must follow that instruction. If they fail to do so, then they are responsible for refunding your money.
While you are at it, if the money was paid on a debit card, see if you can do a chargeback for any previous payments where the goods didn't arrive. That may or may not be possible. If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
I signed up with the Magazine service years ago via the Halifax and also believed the company was no more so had no idea how to cancel. I never got around to writing to my bank to stop the payments as I'm still receiving the magazines.
Anyway just this week the Magazine Service wrote to me to tell me they had a problem processing the charge at my bank and wanted me to contact them or else they will suspend my subscription. So now finally I'm hoping to cancel this subscription once and for all.
