Hi everyone, we now have a full wedding insurance guide you may find helpful.

Hi there - regular reader of the weekly email and occasional browser of the forums.

I am getting married in Italy on August 14th. Weddings by their nature cost a lot these days - although we're getting married abroad in a castle next to Lake Garda for less than half the cost of marrying somewhere locally - so I am considering taking out wedding insurance to cover all the expenditure.

I've found a few online providers but all seem rather expensive for covering relatively little risk.

Obviously the policy - to meet my requirements - should cover weddings abroad but it may be usefull to include any policies you find so that other forum users about to suffer the same punishment can benefit.

THe kind of cover you would be looking for should include the clothing (wedding dress, bridemaid dresses etc) plus wedding rings, cancellation, cost of replacement video/photos, insure against if the photographer should cancel, (Suppose the catering too!)....

There's bound to be a specific company that would cover, try Association of British Insurers on 0207 600 3333 or try them online.
  • This is probably not much help but we got married last year and didn't bother with the insurance - I think there are so many insurance policies out there now for evey tiny little thing (not that getting married is a little thing!) so we made the decision no to bother with it.

  • Hi,

I have been looking at wedding insurance too as we're off to Greece in Sept to get married. I have come across 1 alarming fact:
Due to current security precautions at airports EVERYONE is only allowed 1 piece of hand luggage i.e if you choose to take your wedding dress as this 1 piece, it MUST meet with the sizing guide set down. If you put your dress into the plane hold as our airline (XL) suggest there is no way you can get insurance to cover the dress. I have spent many an hour talking to the airline, travel insurers and wedding insurers and none of the parties offer any compensation for a dress that is lost, mislaid, delayed or damaged whilst it is in the hold. Perhaps if the airline do cause the problem in time you may be able to fight for something but they told me quite clearly it is carried at my risk.....
Apart from the rings this is really all we wanted the insurance for so we won't be bothering either. We just need to find a guest (male!?) who can cope with no hand luggage.........
