Phew what a day.
Our letterbox rattles when the wind is in the north, and with the strength of the wind last night it rattles violently all night, not exactly good for a sound nights sleep.
OH went off to work at the normal time of 6.45am, and at 8 o'clock he was back home again. He'd got on to the motorway, but it was choca-block due to the snow, so he got off at the next junction and came back home again, it was clear he wasn't going anywhere fast. So he's working at home today.
I had a 9am hair appointment, so I left immediately - a journey that normally takes 15 mins on local roads took an hour and a half! It's not much fun sitting there in a blizzard not going anywhere!
It wasn't until I was sitting at the hairdressers that there was any sign of gritters. This snow had been forecast, so they should have salted/gritted the main roads at least.
Anyway, the roads were clearer when I drove home and now it's sunny.
I'm just going to get on with some of my decluttering.
We have someone calling at 5.30pm to give us a quote for the large shrubs we want cut back, although it seems the wrong time to be thinking about the garden, with all this snow.Early retired - 18th December 2014

I just knew I shouldn't have popped out for fruit & veg, we don't have a GGrocer so morries it was. £60 lighter and 7 bags heavier ! I bought 1 kilo of s/steak which is now slowly cooking into a curry, 2 half price chickens also in the oven, 3 kilos of half price steak mince, some of that is a bolognaise simmering on the stove and the rest I've made into 12 burgers and frozen. The pie is out of the oven and now cooling.
I've used all the onions, peppers and mushrooms up so I'm back to square one, I need some veg!!
That pile of unironed clothes is staring at me so best I start dashing away with the smoothing iron.
NLJ, I would stick by my decision, at least you have given her a choice to be entertained in a different way. If she were a "Friend" she would understand. If she doesn't then I'm afraid I'd say who needs friends like that ? Hope that doesn't sound too harsh.
I hate big gatherings and have learnt that I have a right to say NO.
Hope all works out ok.0 -
Good afternoon all,
Bitterly cold here today. The snow has started to thaw now. Hubby took me to wor as i hate driving in the snow. The country lanes weren't very good at all, infact i think my car would have struggled.
halight, glad you went to the Dr's to get checked. Shame you have still got to put up with it.
molly, hope the transfusion went ok.
nlj, i would say stick to your guns and do what you want to do. I too hate big gatherings and parties and wouldn't go if i didn't want to. I think alot of people think hubby and i are boring because we just don't like parties. Thats's just the way we are.
Dinner is on the go. Braised beef, mashes potatoes, cabbage, carrots and peas. I will put a cake in the oven in a little while. Wm has finished and that will now go on the airer. Need to get another load in really.
I hope everyone has a good day and hugs to those who need them.

Afternoon all
Bitterly cold here, no snow until a few minutes ago, I hope it doesn't pitch.
It took me ages to warm up after after lunch duty, it was so cold outside.
Much excitement at work, a punch up & 2 sackings, nothing to do with us, just the contractors working on site.
I need an early night tonight as I was out til 11 last night.
Sausage & mash for tea tonight, I did meals for 3 nights when I was cooking on Sunday, so it makes it easier.
Have a good evening everyone.
Hugs Hester

School slither managed as the school was open.Eldest DD left to go to her school about 10 minutes drive from her house(because of the blizzard this morning she left home at 07.30. to make sure of getting in and seeing that the school buses could get in,Most of the children are bussed in from outlying districts as its a special-needs school) and it took her 50 minutes this morning. She texted me at lunchtime spitting feathers as according to the Head (who is a total waste of space ) she should have phoned him first thing this morning to tell him about the roads ,even though he lives the other side of Canterbury and presumably could see it just by looking out of his window. Its not up to her to shut the school, its down to the Head and he wasn't around as he was struggling to get in to school through the snow .I think the man is bonkers,DD almost told him where to put his job today she is livid. She said she thinks he lives in La La land at times
All the other schools opened up.
I walked (slithered)around to get Mikey for school and this afternoon his Dad came home early so he picked him up.
The wind is still bitter although the sun is shining its freezing cold and I just put an old sheet on my windscreen as the new cover I put on last night was pinched at some point during the night. No one will nick and old sheet I hope.
Meat pie and mash and veggies for dinner tonight to warm me up.I have had the heating on all day and I'm still cold I have two cardis on at the moment on top of a Tee shirt and thick wooly sox,old age makes you feel the cold more, I am even wearing my 'Benny Hat'(think Crossroads ) I think youngest DD was supposed to be at Detling showground tomorrow on a stand at a trade fair but because of the weather its been cancelled thank goodness, she would have froze poor lass.
Hi time we had some warmer weather its getting beyond a joke this chilly stuff in the middle of March.Winter has been a very long one, fingers crossed we get a sweltering summer:)
Cheers chums

Am planning on taking some photos for more ebay listings today then listing then tonight. I don't know if it's true but I have convinced myself that ebay does better when things end in the evening. Does anyone else have an opinion on this?
We do a lot of ebaying, we have found the best time for your listings to end is on a sunday evening at about 7 -8, people are normally home then, and would have had dinner etc, we always do well at this time.
Molly, hope today went well xxx
NlJ, stick to your guns, xx0 -

Evening
Busy day today nice to feel have achieved a few bits though.
Snow flurries here in the south this morning but none settled and its nearly all gone, not sure if its melted or been blown away though
OS DW been on, not enough washing to make a full load though so will do tomorrow, tea tonight was chilli done in the SC so only had to cook rice and serve tonight.
DS has been asked to help out at college open evening Thurs so have to rejig meal plan so he can go out early.
Another NSD today
DD thinks she has fungal nail infection, cannot believe price of the "cures", was wondering if tea tree oil or something might be an effective and cheaper alternative, anyone with any ideas would be welcome.
NLJ do whatever you are comfortable with, I always refuse to do big events on my own (with DH away I have to do everything else by myself dont want to do big social things alone), most people understand.
