Medical Negligence Advice

Hi Guys,
My girlfriend had a fall a couple of years ago, which was her fault causing a serious break in her arm. Anyway during one of the operations to fix it she suffered nerve damage.

She never wanted to do anything about it, despite me telling her to - but now her new GP has even told her to claim!!

My question is about which Solicitor she should go to. I have a friend who used one of these no-win-no-fee places for an injury and my feeling is what is the motivation for these type of firms to get you the most amount of compensation?

Surely they just want the claim done so they get paid their costs - they have no interest in getting the Client the best deal.

Any advice??

Thanks!

hmmm. could that not occur during the fall? The nerve damage?
Was that listed as a possible complication of the surgery?

It didn't happen during the fall. It was mentioned before the surgery - but she was also advised by the surgeon that he had done the operation 'loads of times', and no patient had ever suffered nerve damage.

There are other things that happened when she arrived at the Hospital plus subsequent after-care that have made the problem worse. As I said, without any prompt the GP has advised her to claim!

A free consultation with a Solicitor won't be a problem - my question just is about the quality of the no-win-no-fee brigade if there is a claim there.
  • You (your partner) need to speak with a solicitor who specialises in clinical negligence to get some proper advice as this is a specialised area of the law.

I have no connection with this firm, but they are certainly worth a call

    I agree with Bert.

Another way to locate one is to go on the Law Society website and select Clinical Negligence from the Area of Law drop down list.
