Computer usage help!

How did you measure this? The best way is through a plug in meter such as a Killawatt or similar, they can tell you instant consumption and over the past 24 hours.
I'd be very surprised if it is taking 450 watts all the time, I have a high powered one and when at the desktop or using websites, it draws less than 200w, only spiking when playing games at high resolution. Still a big saving by switching it off overnight though.0 -
If it's really drawing 400W average (which I doubt) then at a typical 12p per kWh, it's using 0.4kWh per hour, which costs about 4.8p per hour.No free lunch, and no free laptop0

Welcome to the forum.
Just a thought - are you in UK or the USA?
Likewise I doubt that a desktop PC will be using 400w-450w - the power supply might be rated that high.0 -
Hey thank you all for replying, I am from the uk, and yeah I allways turn it off when I get a chance to save a bit of power
And yeah I was thinking of getting one of the meters to check the usage, could you suggest any decent ones but not to pricey.0 -
Drawing 400W is the equivalent of leaving a few lights on for the same duration.0

Hey, I have a desktop computer that I play about 7-10 hours a day for work and games. But it uses a whole 400-450w due to the high demand CPU etc, I just wanted to know how much ele is this useing a day ?
Any help that would be awesome.
You have a very sophisticated calculator in front of you. It's not just for playing War of Duty, Sonic the Hedgehog, or whatever other games you play on it.0 -
The temp you've got your heating set to while you enjoy your 7-12 hours gaming and working is far more relevant to your total energy consumption.
Heating and hot water are by far the main costs. No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
It does amaze me how much power PCs draw when idling/doing simple tasks.Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0
