Pension Credit overpayment?
Comments
-
Apologies for dragging up what's fast becoming an old thread, given that compared to most on here it involves a small sum, but having got into debt in the '90s, and knowing how long it took to clear that debt, I have become a bit OCD regarding owing money.
Situation is as last post.
Overpayments are still sitting in my current account, still no word from DWP.
All I want is a letter from DWP demanding immediate repayment!
Does anyone have any advice on how to achieve this?0 -

As mentioned in my earlier post, they probably won't ask for it back. You would have heard from them by now.
Phone them up to confirm this0 -
Thanks yet again lldo1.
I think I might have underplayed the OCD element of this! (In your post, it's the word 'PROBABLY' that bothers me!)
I really do need some OFFICAL confirmation of this. In writing. (From past experience)
Don't know if it's relevant or not, but when filling in the form I was painfully aware that I had paid into this company pension - 1976-82 (As a result of company takeovers, pension became part of Turner and Newall Retirement Benefit Scheme) and I had long ago written off any hope of ever receiving this pension.
6th January 2014, no word from DWP, and I've moved the overpayments into my ISA. If they do ever ask for it back it's there, and at least it's earning a bit of interest.
20th February 2014 Received a letter from DWP asking for details of company pension. As it's just a year since pension started and it looks like a form letter I'm assuming it's a routine check. Put a covering letter re the overpayments with the pension paperwork/bank statements and posted it off.
6th March 2014 Received paperwork back with usual acknowledgement slip. No mention of overpayments.:wall:
17th March 2014. Above was short version, calmed down now.
As I assumed above, received 5 pages of bumpf and 2 booklets telling me how much PC I'm receiving now and how much I'll receive from April 2014.
Regarding my covering letter Re the PC overpayments, the only possible reference in the whole 5 pages is the following sentence at the start of the paperwork:-
"I am writing to tell you that your recent change in circumstances does not affect the amount of Pension Credit we pay you"
This means NOTHING to me. I give up. End of thread.
24th August 2014: Phone call to DWP and final update as follows:
28 weeks overpayments showing on system as "£339.64 - Unrecoverable"
It seems they won't be confirming this in writing.

Can I take it you work in this field?

When you call them, the advisor will be able to tell you from the case notes whether or not the overpayment has been referred as an "offical error". ie. if it has been written-off or not.
They will be able to send a letter confiming it also, but you might not get this for a number of weeks. But note down the time of the call, all calls are recorded.
Because it was declared as soon as it came into payment, the fact you didn't declare it on the form isn't really relevant now.0
