we are with the halifax for emergency home cover the £10 a month one on the account.
we called the them a week ago to send someone out because the boiler was not working on the hot water side of it.
they came out which was good no waiting cannot moan then off they went.
we have £250 excess cover and after looking at the part online thinking great no way would this be more than £250.
got a phone call and BANG they want £405 which means we would have to pay £155 i have spoken and emailed them asking if they could send another firm out.
they asked me to send the quotes i got in which i did both for under £250
got a email saying :
I apologize for the delay in responding to your email.

Unfortunately, we would not be able to agree to use your own contractor, as we have to use our approved engineers.
They specifically exclude Any cost relating to the repair or attempted repair not carried out by us.
The whole point of this cover is to resolve emergencies. They asked you to send in estimates but they have to use their approved engineers! They have delayed your "emergency" claim.0 -
So all in all I have to pay for this even through it is way out. The price they gave included £50 handling fee I ask you £50 to order the parts.0

Take this as an opportunity to set up a regular savings account for an Emergency Fund.
As soon as your Emergency Fund reaches about £1,500, cancel the £10 a month policy.
Continue saving until the Emergency Fund is 3 times your monthly salary.
You're then self-insured and will have no admin fees or other such charges to pay.
With your £10 per month, you're insured for home emergencies.
With the above plan, you get paid interest to be insured for:- Home Emergencies
- Personal Emergencies
- Car Breakdowns
- Temporary Job Loss
- and whatever else you can think of
Start with as little or as much as you can afford - even £10 per month will get you where you need to be eventually.
Think about it, your £10 per month premium is split into:- Admin Charges for Halifax
- Profit for Halifax
- Admin Charges for Axa
- Profit for Axa
- Claims
The last part is where you get your potential value from. By self insuring, you remove all the other parts.0
