Are comparison sites allowing credit searches?

I have Experian Credit monitor for free as part of my Credit Card.

Essentially this allows me two free in depth credit reports per year and more importantly alerts me when new searches are made against my file.

Just recently I've been looking to renew my car insurance and it seems that Swinton and Admiral have searched my file - Three times each.

I've not contacted either company directly as I have only used the comparison sites so the only way I could have authorised this is via the T&C's at the comparison sites.

Is this now normal? I've never had this previously when using the comparison sites. Will this have any detrimental impact on me at all? I've never had any previous bad credit problems at all.
