Hi
To cut a long story short i have found myself being the administrator of my exH estate on behalf of our son.
Due to the complexity of dealing with it, i handed it over to a solicitor who i also appointed as coadministrator for ease of getting things sorted quickly.
I was told by the solicitor that i needed to apply to the courts for a letters of administration in order to release equity from my exH estate to put into trust for DS. The thing is, i gave all relevant documentation regarding estate, bills, insurances etc to him in the middle of February and have been contacting him every 2-3 weeks for updates and to jog his memeory that we exist. 3 weeks ago he informed me that he had collated all relevantdocuments and figures necessary to apply. I called him today and he said he couldn't locate my file but he had drafted something for me to take to another solicitor to have sworn before he can apply. i will be looking at another 6 weeks minimum before i recieve it
Does this seem like an inordinately long time for this to occur and is my solicitor being extraordinarly inept or this usual.
I am finding this really stressful and i want to get it done and dusted to enable us to really get on with our lives
Vxx

Hi misswig, i didn't want to leave this unanswered as this happened to me a few years back. I can understand your stress and wanting to get it all sorted, i can't really remember an exact time limit ( such a distressing time) but i think it took approx 4 weeks between swearing the oath to receiving the letters of administration, so i would say 6 weeks could be usual. All in all in my case it took approx 18 months ( due to sale of a house ) to get everything sorted and the trust set up. Hope everything goes well for you and that this has helped a little.Wise men talk because they have something to say, Fools because they have to say something
