Scrap dealers in my area will pay £200 for it.
  • I called the or yesterday to discuss the car being exempt, she wouldn't listen to me and just insisted I make an offer. I offered £100 and am waiting for them to reply.

My husband told me to call back with our case. Which I have below:

Hospital appointments vary between 2-3 per month so I've based this on the lower, 2 per month.

I've based taxis from supermarket as return journey only, I can get the bus there but not back as i have an 10 month old baby in a pram to include in these journeys, and based this on five per month.

I live in a very hilly village with buses that are not very good.

I go on a course once a week which I can get the bus to again, although it will take over an hour each way.

    So costs are:

    Taxi hospital £67.60
    Taxis shopping £47.50
    Bus pass £82

    £197.10

    Cost of car:

    Insurance & breakdown £59
    Tax, MOT & repairs £30
    Petrol £40

    £129.00

Even if I don't get a taxi home from the supermarket it's still cheaper to run the car.
  • As for the car I put in my forms that I estimated its worth to be £600, we buy any car offered £400 for it. I said it runs well with body work being the only issue, minor scratches / bumps and rusting over rear wheel arch and all four doors on the corners. I also mentioned the back window is broken, it won't open it's stuck. The back door handle is broken so you have to push it in to open the door. It's as accurate as I could possibly make it. I already service it myself, the last garage service it had was October 2010. Has a full mot, passed with flying colours so is roadworthy.

That's all I can think of really to describe it

Base your figures on three hospital trips a month. If the examiner would not let you put your case and did not listen to your figures then go above their head to his assistant examiner, write a letter with the things you have set out here. See where that gets you.

Has the examiner said they will allow you your car expenses if you buy the car off him?

  • I'm surprised they want to take the car off you, my friend has a similar situation and she just stuck firm with her case and they backed down.
