Changing suppliers & meter readings

Hello.
Has anyone else had this happen to them and if so what did you do.

I have recently changed from EDF to OVO.
All is now set up with OVO, the DD is working, the lights are on and the gas fire is warming.

However EDF are still taking my old DD payments so now I'm paying double. Yes I had cancelled them both with EDF and my Bank.
I rang my bank and they have the EDF DD as cancelled so they said they would reimburse me and put a final stop on it.
5 days later EDF took what appears to be a random amount out but immediately paid it back in?
On ringing them they apologised and said it was sorted now. I asked out of interest what final reading they had used to close my acc and transfer to OVO.
They said they had actual readings for the electric but estimate for the gas.
As I had supplied actual reading for both gas and electric I asked why and they said that is what the 3rd-party review body had issued.
I have photos of the meters and can clearly see what the meter readings were.
I'm now told by OVO that this 3rd-party looks at local property usage, my previous bills and adjusts the readings accordingly. So it seems even if I have made a conscious effort to save with my gas usage but if my neighbours use higher amounts they will just up mine to match and that's that.

OVO have said they will reduce my bill accordingly so I do not pick up this extra charge but that is not the point surely this 3rd-party review body can't just change my meter readings like this, can they.

Oh and this 3rd-party has no customer face so I can't contact them to discuss this.

Your comments appreciated.

Sometimes suppliers take one more monthly payment even after a switch. Everything would be resolved on the final bill, but know you have recovered the amount from your bank, you may find the EDF final bill is incorrect ... and if so, expect them to come back later with a further demand for the money you claimed back from the bank.

Its best not to cancel tour DDI until you have received your final bill.

Regarding meter readings, the outgoing supplier obtains these from the new supplier (assuming the new supplier provides them)

The start readings with your new supplier should be the same as the final readings of the outgoing supplier. If they are not, then complain.

    Thanks wywth.

That's my point who do I complain to. EDF say that's the est reading they got given. OVO say the review 3rd-party body changed my reading [I was advised to take a pic of it just in case] and they have to use that. In my case it is not a large amount and OVO have said they will pick up the bill for this but I amazed they can just do this. Who are they.

This review body has no customer interface for me to enquire how they can just decide to change my readings.

    Regards

I doubt they 'have' to by law, more likely they 'have' to because it is company policy - deflection. Until they tell you what legislation they are working on your beef is with Ovo as they are who you are (were) contracted to. Write a letter of complaint.

I believe you could have complained to either the old supplier or the new supplier. It would be their job to liaise with whoever necessary to ensure you were not double billed for the same energy consumption.

I'm not sure who you did complain to, but in this case, it appears Ovo have agreed to amend their billing to reflect the final meter readings used by EDF.
In which case, complaint resolved :)
